Besser so als nie!" -- so könnte man meinen, lautet das Motto des Jungen.
Erst im zarten Alter von 15 Jahren entdeckte er die verborgene Leidenschaft zur elektronischen Tanzmusik.
Inspiriert von musikalischen Kostbarkeiten der Berliner Szene bereitet er nun selbst aus Auditorium eines Ohrenschmaus aus dem bunten Angebot von melodischen minimal- und finsteren Techno-Klängen.
 
Techno, das ist in allererster Linie elektronische Tanzmusik. Von den Dancefloors der Clubs hat sie ihren Siegeszug um die Welt angetreten und von dort bezieht sie immer noch ihre wesentlichen Impulse. 
Heute hat sich Techno einerseits als Überbegriff für die unterschiedlichsten Spielarten elektronischer Tanzmusik von Drum'n'Bass über House zu Gabber im Vokabular festgesetzt. Andererseits bezeichnet Techno aber auch die straighte, schnörkellose 4-to-the-floor-Variante wie sie in Detroit geprägt wurde. Die Wurzeln von Techno sind im Disco- und House-Sound der frühen 80er Jahre zu suchen. Einflüsse können aber auch auf EBM (Electronic Body Music), Industrial, Krautrock, Funk, Soul oder den experimentellen Ansatz von Pierre Henry, der die Musique Concrete erfand, zurückgeführt werden.

In Detroit tauchte der Begriff 'Techno' zum ersten Mal im musikalischen Kontext auf, als die "Belleville-Three" Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins und Derrick May unter verschiedenen Pseudonymen (Model 500, Reese, Mayday, Rhythim Is Rhythim) neuartige Computer-Sounds veröffentlichten. 
Eine funkige Synthesizer-Bassline wurde mit kühl-präzisen Kraftwerk-Beats kombiniert und der Grundrhythmus um eine Vokoderstimme und einige minimale Melodiearrangements erweitert. Die Musik der Zukunft war geboren, wie die 90er Jahre zeigen sollten: Der DJ und die Schallplatte wurden zu den Schrittmachern der Club Kultur.

Mit der zunehmenden Popularität elektronischer Tanzmusik und Verfügbarkeit billiger Geräte zur Produktion nahm die Experimentierfreude zu: der Mix ist alles! Gemäß diesem Credo wurde alles elektronisiert und auf den Dancefloor gebracht: Downbeat, Drum 'n' Bass, Electro, Trance, House, Big Beat, Jungle. Techno präsentierte sich offen für Neues. Die Metamorphose wurde zum Prinzip und machte die Clubkultur zum lebendigen künstlerischen Biotop. Flyer, Mode, Coverlayout, Tanz, Video, Internet, Innenarchitektur flossen in die Clubkultur ein.

Neben Detroit, das mit Jeff Mills, Underground Resistance und den "Belleville-Three" den harten, aus dem Industrial entwickelten Techno nach Europa brachte, waren es vor allem europäische Musiker, die Techno wesentlich prägten. Das Sheffielder Warp-Label bot eine Plattform für die minimale und experimentelle Musik von Bands wie LFO, Nightmares On Wax oder Aphex Twin. Laurent Garnier ließ den französischen Dancefloor beben und die Niederlande exportierten Hardcore/Gabber in alle Welt. Frankfurt wurde dank Sven Väth neben Berlin (Tresor) und Köln, wo Air Liquide an den Reglern drehten, zur deutschen Technometropole. Ab Mitte der 90er ging die Entwicklung weg von den Zentren zu einer bunten Vielfalt: Kruder & Dorfmeister küssten die schlafende österreichische Szene wach, Jimi Tenor, Adam Beyer und Cari Lekebusch erhoben Skandinavien in den Reigen der 'Technogemeinde' und Ken Ishii bewies, dass auch Japaner zu Raven verstehen.

"Da sich (...) auf elektronischem Wege Klänge und Klanggestalten erzeugen lassen, welche die traditionelle Musik nicht kennt, und da allgemein die sinnvolle Anwendung elektronischer Klangerzeuger jenseits der Grenzen zu suchen ist, die den mechanischen Musikinstrumenten gesetzt sind, versteht man unter elektronischer Musik die neuartige, metamusikalische Klangwelt.
Techno ist nun schon ein bisschen in die Jahre gekommen. Neue, Hippere Musikstile wie Trance, neue Formen von House oder andere elektronische Varianten haben ihn aus den Kultclubs verdrängt. Dennoch kommen Monat für Monat unzählige neue Techno-Stücke heraus.

The Northern Irish club scene has spawned many talents over the years, but nothing quite as intimate as CODE2.

DJ duos are a plenty in trance, but husband and wife DJ's are certainly not the norm as this awesome twosome bring their own kind of energy to the forefront of every track and live performance.

The CODE2 project was born in 2020 but Andy and Barbara Irvine are no strangers to the DJ life having served their time in and around the NI club scene for many years. This dedicated duo first appeared under their MR&MRS DJ alias in the hard dance/hardstyle scene, playing and running nights at huge events and clubs such as Q Dance, Planetlove, TFI Fridays, The Coach, Precious, La Lea, Coast, Bar 7, Beach, as well as gigs in Ibiza, spinning at world famous white isle superclubs Es Paradis and Eden. When it comes to trance, supporting artists such as Bryan Kearney, Solarstone, Giuseppe Ottiviani, Simon Patterson, Jordan Suckley, Sean Tyas etc has been this 'work hard party hard' couples bread and butter. Andy & Barbara first fell in love with trance in the late 90s/early 2000's explosion, frequenting clubs such as The Coach in Banbridge and The Network, the infamous allnighter in Belfast.

On the production front the pair signed their debut track “WHO” to Aria Digital and have the support of a true UK legend of the genre. With influences ranging from Giuseppe Ottiviani to fellow Northern Irishmen Simon Patterson and Sneijder (especially the Afterdark sound), you will come to recognise the CODE2 stand out production ability and should brace yourself for the uplifting, psy, tech trance and hard trance bombs to drop!

CODE2 say " After 10 years away from the DJ and promoting side of the industry we always stayed in touch with the music as clubbers and we really caught the modern trance bug. The new generation of NI artists, promoters and clubbers built up such a good scene again and created a big buzz and making the scene the biggest its ever been here before the pandemic hit. During the first lockdown we put the heads into producing, it's something we always dabbled in but wanted to learn more about, now we're addicted to the DAW! People might think we're mad launching a new project when the club scene is in such trouble but the passion and drive is back for us. Making music and mixing again has been a welcomed distraction from the current state of the world, we both started off in trance, we first got speaking through our love of a trance track, we raved and DJed together for years and now we find ourselves back full circle and ready to bring CODE2 to an even wider audience "
