Premiere: Art Was Art - Cancel Culture [ZEN DNA]

Bringing another gem to the forefront, DGTL Records releases new music with DJ/Producer Randy Collé (@colleofficial). The young artist’s years of production experience, combined with a multitude of music styles, is mirrored in his timeless yet fresh sound. Following the success of his single ‘Losing Time’ featured on his jointly-run label ‘Point in Time’, the 4-track EP reflects the emotion and depth that Collé has long brought to his sets. Inspired by artists like Cubicolor, Canada and Floating points — the new EP will be released on the 18th June 2021.

Setting the scene for the EP, the opening track ‘ATFER’ eases the listener into those first few moments on the dancefloor; with enticing grooves accompanying melodic electric-guitars and dramatic synth build-ups. The track is a direct imprint of his distinctive genre of music, which despite steering clear of clichés, manages to resonate with all audiences. It also embodies the inspiration for this release, stating “I always want to create something I feel touched by.”

It’s the perfect warm-up to what follows. True to its name, ‘Horizon’ is a playful storytelling of groovy electronica coupled with entrancing undertones. The surging nature of the track keeps the listener closely in its grasp, and is a masterclass on sleek sundowner sounds. It’s the perfect deep-dive into Collé’s production process; which he describes as a short film for which he makes the soundtrack.

Showcasing a more emotive style than its predecessors, ‘Now Here or Nowhere’ is the third track on the EP; with a somber take on signature house-percussion and emotive synth chords. Merging a sense of contemplation and depth, the track is an original take on dancefloor production that crosses over to the early hours of the morning.

As the closer of the EP, the fourth and final track is a remix on ‘ATFER’, by Silician DJ/Producer Musumeci (@musumeci). Adding an italo-ish spin on the original, the artist has been specially hand-picked by Collé to work on the EP. Re- imagining the track with his two decades of playing for international clubs and festivals around the globe, his adaptation of signature dance tempos and club-heavy electronic elements is the perfect wrap-up to this unique EP. We’re excited to see what’s next in-store for Collé.

Michael Mayer’s latest EP, Brainwave Technology, comes at you purposeful, stealthy and sly. It’s a glorious left turn for the redoubtable producer, one that sees his typically lean and lithe productions buffed to a metallic, futurist sheen. There’s a gleam in the eyes of tracks like “Brainwave Technology” and “Alpha” that speaks of serious fun, of the intersection of the pleasure zone and the frontal lobe.

“Brainwave Technology” itself is informed by Mayer’s deep dive into the thorny terrain of artificial intelligence, transhumanism and posthumanism. Inspired by reading German philosopher Richard David Precht, Mayer found himself heading down the “proverbial rabbit hole,” as he describes it, “watching hours of YouTube material by self-proclaimed prophets of these ‘inevitable’ changes to come.” Never one to be taken in by the egotist’s dance, Mayer’s cynicism about the whole endeavour is tempered, a little, by the deeper questions that these figures gesture towards: “Is it really an evolutionary step that man and machine become one? Or is it rather a marketing plot by Silicon Valley billionaires?”

On “Brainwave Technology”, Mayer plays the charlatans at their own game, turning their logic against them by exposing the fruitiness of their ‘visions’. “I chose irony as my sword with which I chopped off some quotes from some of those batshit crazy prophets and self-promoters,” he explains of the drooling psychobabble he drops in the track’s lacuna. There’s a sense of humour here – how could you not laugh at these hungover egotists? – but there’s levity too, a sense that Mayer’s using sound to expose the contradictions and double-speak at the heart of these half-formed ideas. It’s a Burroughsian tactic, to slice into the heart of the voice to see what hidden truths surface.

It was Burroughs, too, who once said that “when you cut into the past, the future leaks out”; Brainwave Technology cuts into the logic of the futurologist to leak out the messiness of modern reality. On “Alpha” and “Gamma”, Mayer seems to conjure up the stark, ominous music that’d soundtrack a science fiction reinterpretation – or preinterpretation – of our modern malaise, all funereal wreaths of electronic noise and clatterboxing beats. As the EP resolves with “Device For The Young At Heart”, Mayer’s questions are piling up: “Do we want to become immortal and live on as a download? Do we really give up on Earth and put all our effort into colonising Mars?” There are no answers, of course, but plenty of imaginings-to-be. Brainwave Technology soundtracks both dystopian and utopian possibilities of what could come next.

We are happy to announce the debut EP of the Rotterdam based contemporary artist and musician Silas Schletterer aka Machinegewehr. After his track ‘The Maze’ on a well received Lost Tapes Vol. 4, he is no stranger to the AEON camp anymore.
Known from his releases on Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant and Amsterdams finest Bordello A Parigi, Machinegewehr delivers a strong 3 track debut EP with the title ‘Nutant’.
The EP kicks off with DeVilleneuve: 80's vibes are not new to the Rotterdamer, but for this track he tried something new. A dark approach yet joyful at the same time. A modern/ futuristic summer song about 2 lovers, that spend the most happy time together. For now and forever. “Life is so much better with your soulmate by your side...” Machinegewehr says and thats the message of the song.
Nothing less should be transported in the remix of the label boss Alex Niggemann. His ‘Blazing In The Sun Remix’ fully represents and lives up to the name. Happy sunny vibes inspired late 70’s Disco and early 80’s Italo a la Lime & Paul Parker, reinterpreted in a modern way. Probably the happiest song we have ever heard from Alex.
Clearly recognisable that „Down in the storm" was inspired by old school electro that uses space and trippy melodies to tell this adventurous story that keeps you focused from beginning to end.
Nutant, the title track comes closest to Machinegewehr signature sound. The classic Italo, 80's, Sci-Fi vibes, made for the dance floor. A track with lots of energy that will make you want to move, but at the same time lifts people up to follow this journey through space.
"When I finished this EP, I really wanted to look for a label that rhymed with the vibe of this new EP. As the 3 tracks are pretty different from each other, but together form an EP that to me feels new and original, AEON felt like the perfect label to me.“ Machinegewehr says.

Dino Lenny 'You Little Punk' Damon Jee Remix

Catz 'n Dogz welcome old friend and kindred spirit Alvaro Cabana to the Pets family with this powerful quartet of electric bulldozers. Building on the momentum he's been enjoying on his own Rotten City label, here we find the Spanish DJ in overdrive with three originals and one version.

'Ritmo Espiral' starts and ends the piece. Slapping with electroid spikiness and a pushed groove that thumps like it's the mid 2000s all over again, there's a timelessness here to both the original and the dub mix that bubble over with dark funk and nod in all directions from Black Strobe to Tiefschwarz.

They're joined by two more big time bruisers: 'Los Muertos Misteriosos' continues the electro theme with waves and layers of textures crashing down over a relentless drum/sub swagger while 'Barrio Solar' revels and writhes in more of Alvaro's groovecraft.
