Quintessentials is very happy to present their 50th release! To celebrate this, we invited some buddies to bring the deep beats. And damn they did! Mat Chiavaroli, one of your main artists who is getting stronger and stronger, opens this jubilee release with upbuilding powerful tune, just the tune the get Quintessentials 50 started! Great to see profilic dutch producer Nachtbraker (Heist, Quartet Series) on the label too. We love his style and he will soon be as popular as Ajax Amsterdam! His subtle and dirty “Bronco” fits in perfectly. The definitive club tune that grooves and grooves and grooves comes from Ponty Mython (Dirt Crew). Alexandr is a cool guy and this is defo a cool tune. Last but not least is Soul of Hex (Freerange, Vicario). Our mexican friend is going very raw this time. Yes, why not call it electronic body music (remember?)! As we are gentlemen, we added a Quintessentials sticker in the vinyl edition. Go and get it!

Consistency. This is a quality of dance music that’s hard to achieve, especially given the pressure labels and producers have to come out with release after release in order to stay relevant in people’s newsfeeds. After some point, you are bound to drop the ball.

However, consistency is exactly what has been achieved by the prolific entities that are the subject of today’s post. On one hand, you have the artist @Aroop-roy - who throughout his decade-long career has been a reliable source for house, music fans with proclivities for more organic genres such as jazz, afrobeat, latin, and funk. On the other, you have London based label Delusions of Grandeur, run by certified legend Jamie Odell (better known as Jimpster). In terms of my musical journey, there are few labels out there that have exposed me to more of my favorite artists than DoG. Their releases from Recloose, 6th Borough Project, and Session Victim showed me beyond a reasonable doubt that jazz and house music can co-exist and it’ll sound bloody amazing while doing so.

PREMIERE: Don Patron - Don't Let Them Make Beats [Waxtefacts]

Damián Schwartz’ ''Existence Itself'' is a compilation of well composed melodies that evolve, while gliding over the backbone of dance floor rhythms. Whilst containing five tracks, this record feels and breathes like a full length. ''Public Domain''  shows Schwarz' knowledge of jazz composition. The opening track contains chord progressions that are unusual in popular music, but should soothe a more trained audience. Nevertheless, Public Domain is a positive composition that should appeal to selectors worldwide.  
 
''Heavy Weather'' is dripping with modulated chords, thoroughly selected bits of FX, and otherworldly arps. Deep rhythmic drum patterns guide the track into alterations of mood and a warm bath of intelligent melodies. ''Tyner'' is a funked-out piece of work that sounds like a perfect PULP records. It's this track where Schwarz shows that he is up there with the giants of modern day funk sounds. Large synth basses growl through the palette, and an oozing lead synth serves as the recognizable element. For the B2, a beatless version of Tyner is added to this package. This should be a welcome and fun element for selectors to play around with. ''Former DJ, Now Selector'' is a breathing, positive track that’s the perfect ending to a versatile work like ‘’Existence Itself’’.

Bolting Bits favorite Ben Gomori, the label head of Sterns Edits, is once again coming out with a new edition of his official Afro Edit series where he and others produce house-friendly versions of some of the best African-influenced music from around the world. For his 5th edition, Ben has decided to rework the talented band Yabba Funk, who are a group of musicians and friends that formed together in 2006 in Brixton. Throughout their time together, they have released two albums with Sterns Music and have performed numerous acclaimed live shows — including support slots for Seun Kuti and Ebo Taylor.

This EP includes an edit and dub from Mr. Gomori himself of Yaaba Funk's track "Hwe Hwe Mu Na Yi Wompena." However, the tune we are spotlighting today comes from Danvers, one half of the duo Kassian, who has been tearing it up on his own on labels such as Curve Records, Boogie Cafe, and Ben's other imprint Monologues. In his latest effort, Danvers takes the infectious energy of "Oman Foa" into a triumphant new direction, with one of his broken beat rhythms at its core — recalling his big summer track 'Aye Ata' which received heavy support from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Midland. With a succinct arrangement that lets the joyous brass and powerfully harmonized vocals shine potently, it's feel-good party music that works wonders when deployed at the right place and time.
