A bit late, but Friday's track in the "week of music" to celebrate my first 20min song. This one is a remix of the Masked Dedede theme from Kirby Super Star Ultra.

Ahh, Wood Zone. One of those levels from the beta version of Sonic 2 that is sometimes overlooked for the more popular Hidden Palace or very early Dust Hill. It never had its own music, instead using an early rendition of Metropolis's music, leading to the whole time-travel theories where Wood Zone was the past version of it, etc. Good times.

This music, however, originates from a fangame idea of the yesteryear, Sonic 2 Gold Edition. Originating as just a website and some hoax images, at some point a team was formed to work on this, with the amazing https://soundcloud.com/dmashura working on the tracks and myself on the zone art at the time. The music you're hearing is actually for a zone that was labelled Frigid Forest, but back when Sonic ROM hack music editing first started (with Sonic 2 Beta being the ROM to work on, somehow) I decided the old track fit Wood Zone nicely. From then on, I always preferred it as such. I've made several SMPS renditions of it over the years, as well as mixes more like this. I should work on another SMPS one soon, I think.

This rendition of the track has actually gone through several iterations, with changes made to the lead, the drums, the filtering, etc. over the years. I was never completely happy with it, though, and actually completely forgot about it until I came across a cache of old project files at the beginning of the week. So, I decided to work on it yet again, and this is the result. I'm actually 99% happy with it now, the 1% reserved for if I decide to change it further later on. :U
