Aimless Device foi fundada por Bart Azijin, Patric M e o enigmático Edgar nos sintetizadores.  
Em meados de 1980, muitas coisas estavam acontecendo na cena musical belga. Em Bruxelas a cena eletrônica se desenvolvia com bandas como  Pseudo Code, Digital Dance entre outros. Em Leuven, Ludo Camberlin (co-produtor de Praga Khan & Lords of Acid) começou sua própria gravadora, a Anything But Records, criando oportunidades para bandas que tentavam algo novo, entre elas: Neon Judgement, Poesie Noire e Aimless Device que expandiram seus poderes de criação, adicionando sintetizadores e drum-machines com os elementos do rock característicos da época.
