We are excited to introduce Silica, a soundset for TAL-Pha, featuring 150 carefully sculpted patches inspired by the retro-futuristic sounds of the mid-80s, combined with a modern, cinematic twist.

So, what is TAL-Pha you may ask? It’s a faithful emulation of the Roland Alpha Juno II, an iconic analog synth released in 1985, with the MKS-50 as its rack version. The synth was used by artists like Orbital, Vince Clarke, Faithless, Massive Attack, The Prodigy, Howard Jones and many more.

TAL-Pha offers the classic analog sound of the hardware, but is further enhanced with modern flexibility and many additional features (it even reads sysex from the hardware).

In Silica, you will find everything from animated synth arpeggios to fat bass lines and basses, supported by lush pads and a wide selection of vibrant poly synths and keyboard sounds, that evoke the sounds of the mid-80s. There’s also a selection of hybrid drum loops, soundscapes and sound effects. The result is a versatile collection designed to be instantly usable, with no fillers, just authentic, character-rich synth goodness, that works equally well for retro-inspired productions or cutting-edge modern media.

Influences include classic artists of yesteryear, such as Vince Clarke, OMD, Howard Jones, Fluke, FSOL, and The Prodigy, with strong ties to today’s modern composers such as Mac Quayle (Mr. Robot), Cliff Martinez (Neon Demon), and Lorne Balfe (Ghost in the Shell).

Here is a new Atari ST chiptune done for Retrocomp/Loaderror Party in Gdansk 2015. This one was quickly finished before the party and is not as complete as intended (a final version may follow). Anyway, the track is using a number of untypical timer effects for the lead voice and background sounds. Kudos to gwEm's Maxymiser!

October 2018 minimix

This is a conversion of Parts I & II of Dane's soundtrack to the brilliant "Uncensored" demo by Booze Design (C64) to the Atari ST YM2149 sound chip.
The original was released at the X2014 demo party, and I must have come across it around 2016 while watching scene related youtube videos. Its swinging rhythm and staccato stabs immediately hooked me, and I set myself the challenge to port it to the Atari. It took forever, but here it is finally. Stellan, I hope I stayed true to your masterpiece!
