Honingbeer - „Opia EP“
“Opia“ sees Honingbeer’s musical colors shine, it’s a fully realized vision informed by her background in classical music and her never-ending curiosity about state of the art production. The result is big, dramatic and bold. It’s filled with emotional warmth and sincerity. It’s pure and constantly surprising in the best possible way. It’s Neo-Classic. But it isn’t, really. So, if you are of the opinion to exactly know how music made by violin and electronics sound like, Honingbeer will prove you wrong.

Her debut EP for Bigamo was written during the pandemic while she was living alone - and partly didn’t have a home, actually. Opia, by definition, is a defect in vision. In terms of Honingbeer’s music, it refers to a rather different kind of self-reflection, as she wasn’t shying away from challenging her mirror image to take her to the deepest discomfort hidden in her subconsciousness. The effect of this journey was a cathartic one, as it made her reach a new found musical autonomy while she learned to understand solitude as something that makes her feel safe and sound. 

Sometimes, in order to decide if something’s good or bad for you, you have no other choice than placing yourself right in the midst of it. Honingbeer did exactly that while writing this material. And luckily, she isn’t sparing us the details.

Perdidos en el Valle was recorded after a long night-out dancing to early Cologne techno classics like Mike Ink and Thomas Brinkmann, to Kinshsa’s call & response masters Kingongolo, and the obscure raw salsa from Meridian Brothers and Frente Cumbiero. Like on the dancefloor that night we were equally jumping and chanting into the microphone in the studio the day after. The energy was magnificent!

Guido used to shoot his guns in the air when entering the bar during carnival, then say: "I am El Sabata, serve me to drink now!"
We have to admit we've shared some crazy and good times with him in the past, who knows where he's heading to now.

During a trip to Morocco in 2018, where we played a show with Dixon, Glib’r and Frank Wiedemann, we spent a lot of time in the Medina of Marrakesh eating, drinking, hanging
with the locals and learning about how Gnawa music is played. Especially the sound of the large, heavy iron castanets known as Qraqab or Krakeb left a mark on us and organically made it into the rhythm-heavy track ‘Osem’.

Keope – Osem

An overnight drive to the coast to see friends, chat around the campfire, wake up in the shade of the huge pine trees and watch the sea ripple in the morning breeze.

This is a classic KEOPE style tune, blending Toni’s muted guitar licks with Marcus’ syncopated drums and synth sequences. When you come to one of our live-gigs you will hear us improvising this stuff for hours. Perfect to dance the whole night.

Al Pagoda & Berend Intelmann's new EP, In Roam, is a clear reflection of their collaboration. It’s the result of Pagoda's countless improvised live sessions with Intelmann, with whom he already shared studios, projects, and stages in the past. The addition of dancer turned model turned singer turned future superstar Vinson Fraley, who was introduced to their musical cosmos through a mutual friend, came very natural, since it felt like the missing puzzle piece to elevate this project to a different level.
