Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with sub-genres including House, Tech House, Deep House, Hip House, Minimal, UKG, Breaks, as well as a small amount of Electronica.Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its twelfth year Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.

Frank Wiedemann, co-founder and owner of Innervisions, half of Âme, Howling and Schwarzmann, stumbled over beautiful yet unreleased music.
On his record label BIGAMO, he features special sounds connected to his non-house-music taste that would not fit Innervisions.

Artist Manager, Label Boss, Radio DJ, unintentional conversationalist documenting the infinite jigsaw of music culture one piece at a time.

“Lucky Veil” is Al Pagoda’s first mini album released via Bigamo Musik. Seven songs built out of layering luminous synth melodies that sound strong, iconic, like a childhood memory that’s long been dormant.

Al Pagoda, originally from Valencia, Spain, settled in Berlin in 2015, where he started working as a composer for movie soundtracks. During these years he experimented with new sounds and recording techniques. In 2018 a colleague of his, who had witnessed some of his free-form experimentation sessions, asked him to play at Loophole, a small club in Neukölln, Berlin. Al Pagoda accepted and came up with a few songs for the show. After this, the album would crystallise in no time.

Al Pagoda's cinematic approach can be felt throughout his music; his songs unfold like stories that take us to the crux of an inescapable revelation. Built from short snippets recorded in his phone over the years, Lucky Veil was put together during a winter in Berlin, in a room with no windows.

Nicolas Vernhes took care of the mixing in his new studio in Joshua Tree, California. Mastered by Bo Kondren at Calyx Mastering, Berlin.

Raised in a small village in the very north of the Netherlands and currently residing in Utrecht, Feitsma essentially contributed new nuances to the ever-increasing scene of piano-driven music - an instrument he started to sink his teeth into at an early age already - with his 2019 debut “Under“. The album combined the timeless with the contemporary, offering an intense ride which instantly triggers a palette of emotions among the audience they weren’t aware they were hiding. Two years later, Feitsma’s exploration of the manifold possibilities to manipulate and exhaust his trusted piano continues with a 15-track album titled “Flux“, which feels like the logical successor to “Under“, even though it isn’t shying away from subtlety breaking fresh musical ground. The music of Joram Feitsma is an elaborate affair, it’s deeply heartfelt, it’s sensual, it’s ambivalent, it’s volatile, it’s stunningly beautiful - it’s a work of transience that’s here to stay with the power to emotionally destroy you in the best possible way.

Plentiful in its exhortation, rich in its search for the meaning in emotion while the accompanying instrumentation seemingly feels restrained, poignant to the point of haunting intensity. Even the playing is exhilarating when it is being quiet. The thing about experiencing Stroom is the sheer quality of detail. As if each note means something on its own, as if each piece occupies exactly the right time.
