Uplifting, life-affirming, and perfectly timed for the summer months - cobbled together, Heath Robinson stylee, more by serendipity than design, into a coherent whole by DJ / Producer Greg Wilson. Most of the tracks featured are by Blind Arcade (Kermit Leveridge & EVM128), either existing demos or works in progress, but the mixtape is also peppered with half-a-dozen GW edits, lyrically laced to bubble the Super Weird stew – the constant presence, and main ingredient, being Kermit, for it's his inspirational tale of faith and redemption at the very core of this morphogenetic mixtape. Following on from the Ruthless Rap Assassins and Black Grape, we believe that this is his greatest musical odyssey, drawing from the deep wells of his own mythos and logos. There were 3 frontmen in the Rap Assassins, 2 in Black Grape, but now, for the first time, Kermit steps to the fore – no longer to be described by such a limited term as 'rapper', but as a sabre-skilled vocal chameleon, his shades and depths ranging from wise old soul to lovestruck adolescent, invoking his many I's as a cast of compelling characters, both comic book and close–up personal, whilst, in trickster tradition, keeping us on our toes, not knowing what to expect next.

What is the true mark of the wayward genius of Wiley? Is it that, less than six months after the release of his last full album, '100% Publishing', he has another record all set for release? Is it that he has insisted that it is released on his birthday, Thursday January 19th 2012? Or that he initially refused to release a single from it? That he has made so much music that his fans will receive two CDs, the second with at least eight further tracks on it? Or even that one track on the album has no music ('Customs')? No, it’s not any of these. It's that we can say, without fear of contradiction (or without much fear), that Evolve Or Be Extinct is the best album (so far!) of this unique artist’s career. Dark, funny, wild and exhilarating, this is a record which shows just what Wiley is capable of when he forgets the minutiae of recording contracts and concentrates on the many weird and wonderful facets of his life…

So here is an album which covers topics from ordering a taxi, being stopped by immigration, to dancing on your own in your bedroom. It also delves into the psyche of Richard Cowie on tracks ranging from 'Weirdo' (“I’m a weirdo but I’m not a bi-polar”) to 'Miss You' and 'Scar' (in reference to the cut on his face). While most of the music again comes from Wiley the latter track, along with 'Money Man', is produced by Mark Pritchard. Wiley himself turns in exemplary music throughout, from the hyped punk-grime of the title track, through the soca-swing of 'Miss You' to the sparse drip-crunk of “This Is Just An Album”. And all that’s before you get to the bounce of singles “Link Up” and 'Boom Blast'.

Wiley has never made a record which reveals so much of his character, his contradictions and inner workings, his humour as well as his anger. A short, sharp, brilliant album, it shows Wiley as more than Godfather to a scene and penner of occasional hits, but as an artist who continues to develop, refine and improve his vision even after ten turbulent years in the game. The evolution continues…

"UK Allstars (Congo Natty meetys Benny Page - Radio Edit)" featuring Tenor Fly, Top Cat, General Levy, Tippa Irie, Sweetie Irie and Daddy Freddy, taken from the album "Jungle Revolution", to be released on Big Dada Recordings, 1 July 2013. 

Congo Natty aka Rebel MC has a career dating back to his early hit with Double Trouble, "Street Tuff," but is probably most respected as one of the pioneers of Jungle - perhaps the first uniquely UK-born bass music. 

"Jungle Revolution" features the whole of the extended Congo Natty family and was mixed with Adrian Sherwood. Clearly showing this Rasta's belief that Jungle is a re-boot of roots reggae for a new century, the record is full of blood and fire, the sternum-buzz of sub-bass, rapid fire drum breaks, sweet hooks, righteous anger and professions of religious fervour. It’s the kind of passionate, committed, raw and spiritual, beautiful record that doesn’t come along every day. 

To celebrate this release, we are streaming the track "UK Allstars," which features a who's who of British soundsystem culture. This is the first time ever that this line up have all appeared on one track together and so also marks a historic coming together of a scene which lies at the roots of so much of what we now take for granted in UK music, from dubstep to grime to drum & bass and beyond.

In 2006, Before starting Our 'Crowns Down" Themselves lp that dropped in 2010. Dose and i were asked to do an exclusive track for a fundraiser cd called, African Jag Vol 1. This project was put together by Dj Krush and friends out of Japan.
This song is kind of the inspiration for the Crowns Down "Fuck a King" concept we kept for our 3rd Themselves release on Anticon. Digital's selection on this promo mix, one the Ipswich based producer made to mark his forthcoming appearance in the Metalheadz hosted Room Two on Friday 21st June, is absolutely vital. It's an easy term to band about, like "oh yeah dude, this tune is vital to the flow of the mix," or whatever, but there's a real aspect of classicly informed junglism about the breaks he chooses to unite. That fact might be totally unsurprising if you aware of the man's heritage within drum & bass so if not, here’s a short lesson…

After being involved with reggae soundsystems in his youth, between ’89 and ’91, the exponential scene around jungle and drum & bass started to bubble and Digital started hiring out his soundsystem and found his entry point into a scene that had people like Rupert Parkes, better known as Photek, already enamoured with it. With solo releases stretching all the way back to ‘Touch Me’ on Timeless Recordings in 1995 with Digital releasing ‘Niagra’/’Down Under’ on Metalheadz a year later. A regular on the scene ever since Digital went on to birth his own Function imprint, releasing Space Funk: The Archives 1995-2008 in May of 2009, chronicling his progression and career up until that date. 

Still as potent and precise in his DJing, Digital’s appearance at Metalheadz on Friday 21st June promises a lot with his core educated dynamics nestling amongst sets from Goldie, Calibre, Lenzman, Jubei, CMX, DJ Flight and One 87.
