Certainly among the most amazing days of my young life was spent in England, in November of 1980 on the Thames-moored houseboat belonging to this man. I recorded him on tape, after meeting his wife, Ki, and (then teeny toddler) daughter Silky, who instantly adopted the little novelty shoes I had brought for her Da as a silly gift as I knew he liked silly things. Although his mortal being "flung the dummy" (as he liked to say), I don't believe this incredibly strange angel, this heroically weird, tragically sad and absolutely brilliant and beautiful man is anywhere but everywhere now, and a part of me that I and anyone who ever knew him treasure. I am only slightly embarassed by my earnest younger self in this report, made for WBCN in Boston upon my return to the states.

Did You See Them Words

This is my mother, Gloria Green, singing the 1953 song, "I Believe".   I think this was recorded around 1966, in Los Angeles.   My mother would've been in her late 30's.   She was a single-mom, juggling a day job and singing in nightclubs, such as The Luau, which was at 435 North La Cienega.   When she was 18, a talent scout from Warner Brothers heard her sing, thus offering her mother, my Grandma Anna, a movie contract.   Well, Anna turned down the man and thus became the beginnings of the greatest stage mom of all time.   Enjoy her sweet and incredibly beautiful voice.

Our daughter Olivia was always a strong songwriter. When she was 11 she came to me with a melody she wrote called "What Do I Do." Here's a rough tape of us singing it. Like most of her songs, the melody is catchy and sophisticated for a little kid. I added instruments and a harmony later for fun.
