So. Here we are again. A coincidence? I think not. Life needs a soundtrack, we’re here to facilitate. Speaking of, we’re blessed to be joined by Ranma Entero (aka Sergio Téllez) for this edition of self-reflection radio. Straight outta Mexico with plenty to say, the producer, DJ, and all-round vibe consultant sends us packing with a one-way ticket. 
	
Ranma has approached this in a somewhat scientific manner. Strategically formulaic; a composite of ideas with just the right amount of musical abstraction and harmoniously organised to create something that is in all honesty, breathtaking. Pulling on every emotion as if they were guitar strings rendering an audible rollercoaster. The clever peppering of vocal and environmental samples adds narrative to the experience and creates chapters throughout. Unfolding from blissful in its purest form to romantically jarring in its finest form, this mix captivates from start to finish, welcoming each change like a season, or a shift in the weather. Overall a fantastic summary of life in general, it's up to you on how you interpret it.

Purelink have been described more than once as an "ambient boy band." (They themselves say "jam band.") It's not meant dismissively—the American trio purposefully mean to function as a band, even if their main instruments are laptops. Ambient might not quite cut it as a descriptor, though. The group's music crosses eras and scenes, touching on the late '90s clicks & cuts boom as well as the billowy ambient techno put out by labels like 3XL, West Mineral Ltd. and NAFF. 

Their most recent LP, Signs, released on enigmatic imprint Peak Oil (and one of our favourite albums of 2023), is especially impressive, made of stuttering rhythms and glassy textures. In other words, it's ambient-not-ambient. While members Concave Reflection, kindtree and Millia have all made excellent music on their own, something special happens when they come together.

Purelink's RA Podcast is another stellar contribution to our post-New Year's tradition, where we highlight a more laid-back sound to soothe weary minds and frazzled brain cells after the heavy holiday celebrations. This is 90-plus minutes of intricately textured downtempo, dub techno and even UK garage, all cut through with a floaty, almost drowsy quality, with plenty of exclusives and unreleased cuts from the likes of Nick León, James K, Downstairs J and more. It highlights Purelink's position as a bridger of worlds, sounds and tempos.

We've got an another letter from Canada. 45th mix is delivered by Scott W., a true fixture of their underground scene, also known for his ZAP! party. With his masterful skill, and discerning selects as a avid vinyl collector, all diverse tracks are transformed into unique and trippy story of 70 mins. MOLDIVE will have him on March 22, at Club NOON. We'd love to see you there.

Welcoming the lovely Refuge Worldwide co-founder and dub-master @richard-akingbehin to the Animix series this week, with a beautiful journey of minimal house infused with his signature dub styles.

Clear in his DJ'ing, but also his work with @refugeworldwide, and his immaculately curated label, @kynant-records, Richard is an all-round classy selector, and a champion of community. Through his various outputs, his deep & considered knowledge and taste shines. 

Richard always impresses me with the diversity of moods he presents via his DJ'ing, hybrid collaborations with legend Tikiman, b2bs with other legends like livwutang, and his label - a diversity that's always strung together with his incredibly distinctive psychedelic, soothing dub formula.

Carrying on from some legendary parties before it, the next generation of ravers held 'plur' true to it's og meaning. Young Harry (Peanut) and I had been mixing together and talking about tunes we loved for months leading up to the event. We played in the side room while the morning light slowly poured in, all the homies in the front and gun fingers to the back. Big party mode with some blissy ones, freedom while it lasted, and a fun one to listen back to. Big thanks to everyone who hosted and the dancers!

My sister asked me to send a playlist to listen to while in labour, which i thought was a really fun task. I’m not sure if it helped, but here is a collection of the songs i sent. It ended up being a pretty self-indulgent exercise, but the idea was that i thought these songs would be nice to hear when you get born, depending on your taste in music as a baby.
