Stanislav Tolkachev has been turning out experimental techno for more than a decade but might never have been as prolific as he is now. Hot on the heels of an EP on Raw Waxes that brimmed with dark IDM invention, this month sees him serve up his fourth full length, It Will Be Too Late Then. It finds the Ukrainian serving up controlled machine made chaos, cavernous grooves and his trademark arpeggios across nine forward thinking tracks. 

All this and more is showcased on his podcast for us. Tolkachev’s compulsive rhythms are the foundation for what is an end of days soundtrack that takes you from the heat of a percussive battle to a charred and desolate landscape. It’s cinematic music rich in texture, blistering drums and sharp melodies that is beautiful in its brutality.

Yet amidst his obsession with urban culture and the techno scene, Keikari continually draws inspiration from his other nature, the self born into the slower-paced seaside city of La Rochelle.Keikari released his first EP "Metsa" on the American label Monocode, which was followed by a second EP on Berlin-based label Kontruktiv. The second EP " Illta" has been supported by great artists from the techno scene. His third and fourth EP " Valta " and " Eroa " are released on Joton's Label Newrhythmic recs and have been supported by Pfirter, Drumcell, Truncate, Jeroen Search, Hd Substance , Unbalance, Kike Pravda... One of our closest French counterparts, Nicolas Bartko, aka Keikari was born and raised in the quiet seaside town of ‘La Rochelle’ in western France.

He moved to a near by town called Angoulême, where his first real introduction to music came from an unlikely source. Starting out listening to Rock music and playing his guitar he later began listening to Jazz at local bars, but it wasn’t until he ventured over to Bordeaux that he first discovered electronic music...

MASHT Podcast Episode 011 - Otodojo
Our eleventh episode features an exclusive deep hypnotic mix from our long-time great friend Otodojo. 

Otodojo is a project created by Maro Kariya that aims to make music which resonates with his soul. In Japanese, oto means sound and a dojo is a place for learning, so ‘otodojo’ translates to a ‘sound place for learning’. After debuting with MASHT NYC’s HEIZEN event in 2013, Maro released several digital EPs, which explore techno and sound design, and played at events such as Metamorph and Twice As Proper in Brooklyn, NY. Living in Ithaca while pursuing his PhD, Maro saw a need for electronic music events aimed towards dancing, so he developed the music series called Microtones. The next Microtones events will take place in Ithaca on February 16, 2019 and March 23, 2019 (more info will be available at Microtones.org). Maro is currently working on his first album and his PhD thesis (some of his research can be found here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-018-03333-6).

Radial is the techno moniker of Jeroen Liebregts from The Netherlands. Jeroen has been dj'ing since around '98 and picked up music production soon after. Since 2002 Jeroen teamed up with Bas Mooy and started the label Audio Assault as a platform for their own work and that of artists whose work they admire. About a year later sublabel Arms was born. In 2014 his own brand new imprint Radial Records sees the light of day with the release of Crux, the second full length Radial album.

Always driven to dive deeper Jeroen started a 4-year studies of Sonology at the Conservatory in The Hague, which he finished in 2006. This study deals with electronic music composition, computer programming, analog synthesis and electronic instrument design among other things. This is probably what kickstarted his interest to use self designed instruments in his music. The constant quest for new technological approaches is an imported factor that helped shape his sound. His current tendency toward analog hardware based methods also resulted in his involvement in the design and development of the Synton Fenix modular synthesizer.

Over the years the music of Jeroen Liebregts has found it's way to many places using different aliases (Radial, Museum, Finder, Sinecure). There have been releases of original tracks and remixes on labels such as Token, Perc Trax, Mote-Evolver, Numb, Drumcode, Planet Rhythm, Dole-Gate and most recently Mord and Soweso.
