@darkeatr is a producer and DJ based in Bristol. His work could be approximated to post-club, deconstructed DnB, glitch, trap and garage, though all such approximations constitute injustice to the variegation and individuality of the music he has so far produced. His Realist mix is an expansive enquiry into the self’s obsessions and the consequent turmoil, articulated with a deftness, daring and beauty that traces these themes of alteration and reconciliation. Ben details the show’s backdrop below.

“This mix is intended as an exploration of the emotional euphoria and discordance when neurodivergent people with obsessive tendencies discover a new obsession and become lost in it. This may be with a concept or a piece of media, a theory, or even a person. It emulates the phases of uncovering something and becoming embroiled in it, the tumultuous emotions that then follow, and the eventual acceptance of it into the self as a new piece.

This is based on the phases of ‘Obsessive Love’ (Infatuation, Intensification, Obsession, Destruction, Resolution), but I’ve put my own spin on it and changed it into 7 phases.

‘7th Protocol’ is a reference to ‘Protocol 7’ from Serial Experiments Lain; a program that allows for people to connect with the ‘Wired’ (an online realm) directly through their consciousness and become entirely physically absorbed into it. Naming the mix this calls to the idea that many obsessions for younger neurodivergent people now come from being immersed in online spaces, as they provide safe havens for people with social difficulty, which I suppose can character via the 7 phase process of obsession delineated in the mix.

I wanted to approach these themes while also presenting a club-oriented mix that aligns with the Realist catalogue. The track at the end of each phase is intended to be a signal for the beginning feelings of the next phase."

Ghozt is a New York/Connecticut–born deconstructed/experimental artist sculpting caustic club architectures. Their work fuses industrial grit, jungle, dariacore, sub-heavy dubstep, hard-drum kinetics, and deconstructed club with a focus on the macabre horror of the dancefloor. Their mixes are defined by harsh atmospheres, scorched distortion, and punishing drums that collapse between euphoria and dread, re-forming into complex structures and emotional dialogues along the way. Ghozt has released music under Stranacorpus, Marmint Agency, Jahanam, and Tabula Rasa, and has an upcoming album releasing in the near future.

For this mix, Ghozt unleashes some of the most frenetic and harsh sounds within their library: unreleased and published cuts of their own work woven into electronics from their contemporaries. Expect to be dragged between adrenaline, trepidation, and cathartic release; a ruthless study in tension from one of the scene’s most uncompromising voices.
