Earlier this year it was a style I had not in my collection yet. Inspired by the drum and bass sound. Spinning it my way of course. And for the first time trying to make a video-clip for a track.

The video was recorded in Ubbergen on a location called the 'Devil's Hill'. Thought that would be appropriate ;) In the year 1000 A.D. there was a castle on top of it made of wood. Also sparking imagination.

About the track. I had been working with sampled breakbeats a while, the same goes for techno-sounds and basslines. But this time I tried to use as little samples as possible, making the patterns myself. Curious where it would bring the track.

Soon I had the sound I wanted, but over time the track grew into the energetic uptempo track I had in mind. I decided to release this version here, realizing the game of creation is one of patience :)

Hystery Hill - Including YouTube Video

Inspired by one of the most eclectic and fast-paced styles out-there, being Frenchcore, I decided to use French vocals in this track. 

Almost immediately this made me think of the French Revolution and the motto of France. Not coincidentally being the time of the horrific tool the guillotine.

Early in the project the idea to use crowd noises arose. This was a nice bit of research, but in the end it also made it into the final version the way I intended.

Guillotine

Here it is, the dubstep experiment I have been working on for quite some time now. Spent more time on it than planned because of some setbacks in the process. Did not give up on the concept though! :)

I call it an experiment because I was aiming for a few things I was not sure I could accomplish. In the end I think I did catch the easy going atmosphere, laid back alarm and melody I was looking for. Hard to prove that statement of course ;)

The track seems to fit the sunnier times ahead this spring. Providing me some closure too. Have a listen if you like, and take it slow! :)

Take It Slow

Story of my musical life, starting with one idea, and ending up with a totally different result. Again, production might not be my strength, but I did come up with this boombastic mix of styles.

The initial idea was to find some electro sounds and build a track from that, with some kinda party-feel to it. Well, that idea went out the window soon enough. The track went in the direction of distorted kicks and dark melody, so I went with that.

About the title. According to some people last Saturday was Judgement Day. But that is a nice little coincidence, because I have been working on this since April 19th and did not realize this. Either way, give it a listen. Thanks!

Top Secret

Here's the hiphop-track I have been working on last month in between work and movies :) I guess I should say: hiphop-dubstep-hybrid. Influences all over the place! Will be honest with ya: I think some parts worked out, some did not.

For those who follow me know: I'm in it to: try, test and learn. Checking out what what works for me, what my limits are etc. This hiphop-dubstep-hybrid sure taught me a lot. Hopefully you'll enjoy checking it out.

UPDATE: Demo (post October 30th)
Replaced the sneakpreview with a 5 minute version. Consider this the final edit! 
Have spent a lot of time on problems with the timing of the wobble, drifting starting points etc. Learned a lot, later on decided to sample bits and pieces to fix that. Made most sounds myself.
But that's not important right now...see if you like it, drop me a comment! Then I will too :)

FIRST VERSION: Work In Progress (pre October 30th)
Here is a sneakpreview of my latest creation. Not finished yet, it was simply time to share, so hereby!
It has an obvious drum & bass dubstep flavour to it. Why still in progress? Because rush jobs are not allowed in my homestudio :)

Hyper (Final Edit)

Here's the latest and last BioStorm demo of the year 2010. Time flies when you're having fun! I initially recorded and uploaded a version with the wrong musical arrangement... I intended to use a retro cowbell. With this new version that's been fixed! ;)

This time, like the other tracks, it is the result of some experimentation. Always nice to gain some knowledge while fooling around in the homestudio. Don't expect rocket science, but I'm pleased with the process of making this one. I will point out a few things I've done with this track. 

It started out with the idea of creating some kinda old skool feel with a piano melody. Also tried some distortion tricks and I used a sampler I hardly used before a bit more. Studied the well known dirty sound as well, and mixed it down to...something! ;)

Wiggly Jack

This time, as intended, a more uptempo and hard track. You can see this one as an experiment with some more custom samples. Like the title suggests, I was looking for contrast in the arrangement. The starting points being a raw distortion-like lead and bassdrum.

The process of making this version was nice to go through. I made quite a few pre-productions for myself, with which I was not satisfied. Step by step ending up with this arrangement, that is closest to what I tried to achieve from the beginning.


Digital Contrast

BioStorm is always inspired by the old and the new styles around him. Ever since hearing the first 303 acid dripping tracks in 1988, he travelled through time via house, techno, trance, hardcore, drum and bass, dubstep, hiphop and pop. At the age of 18 was selling his moped to buy a sampler instead the right move because. Because decades later he's still at it, working from The Netherlands, which is an actual country in Western Europa :) His philosophy is: electronic dance music DOES have a soul and comes in many forms. BioStorm is not about one style, but one universal language.
