FROM DEEP TO TECH

Here's another one of my personal edits that I've never planned on releasing in the Underdog vinyl series. I must admit that I have a thing for soulful gospel. And nothing says soulful gospel like The Mighty Clouds of Joy. A career that spans over 50 years, they have always pushed the boundaries between gospel & popular music with timeless singing and solid grooves. Though I've done quite a few Mighty Clouds re-edits (Time is available on Underdog Edits Vol. 13), this one is one of my favorites. 
Taken off of the Kickin' album, this track was produced by the late great Dave Crawford, with a little help from Philly Soul legends Earl Young (drums) and the late Larry Washington (congas). Some slight extensions and an inspiration vocal from an unknown "deep" brotha', this one will have you boogying down the aisles come Sunday morning!

bv: Zunächst einmal freuen wir uns riesig, dass wir mit Euch ein so grandioses DJ-Duo als ersten Act für die Podcastreihe "beatverliebt. in" gewinnen konnten! Wie kam es denn zu "Meise & Huhn"?
M&H: Danke, wir freuen uns dabei zu sein und den Auftakt machen zu dürfen! Meise & Huhn entstand durch die Liebe in 2012. Wir haben durch die Musik auf Anhieb ein gemeinsames Hobby gefunden und nur wenige Zeit später hatten wir die Idee zu diesem Projekt. 

bv: In Euren Sets ist uns vor allem immer wieder die Liebe zum Detail und die geschmackvolle Trackauswahl aufgefallen. Was bedeutet Musik für Euch?
M&H: Vor allem leben und lieben mit viel Gefühl!

bv: Was war bisher Euer kuriosestes Musikerlebnis?
M&H	:Ziemlich am Anfang unseres Projekts, bin ich (Meise) mal in den schwarz-weißen Tasten des Keyboards hängen geblieben - das war bei der Produktion zu 'After Sun', hehe.

bv: Nach welchen Kriterien habt ihr Eure Tracks für den beatverliebt.-Podcast ausgewählt?
M&H: Wir möchten für Jeden etwas in unseren Sets dabei haben. Deswegen haben wir immer eine große Vielfalt und Abwechslung an Tracks.

bv: Karten auf den Tisch - wer von Euch hat diesen tollen Podcast gemixt? Oder anders gefragt: Was macht die Meise, was macht das Huhn, wenn ihr auflegt:)?
M&H: Da dies eine Studioproduktion ist, kümmert sich die Meise um die Trackauswahl. Sie mixt diese dann vor und das Huhn mischt sie anschließend zusammen - Alles selbstverständlich immer in Absprache und Zusammenarbeit:).

bv: Klingt nach einem gut eingespielten Team! Was steht in der nächsten Zeit alles bei Euch an?
M&H: Auf jeden Fall weiter mischen. Und ganz bald auch wieder etwas Eigenes starten, sprich eine eigene Produktionen - ja und natürlich raus in die Clubs!

bv: Hört sich gut an, wo kann man Euch denn das nächste Mal erwischen?
M&H: Als nächstes sind wir wahrscheinlich in Oldenburg, nähere Infos dazu gibt es bald auf unserer Facebook-Seite.

Considered one of of the most polific jazz and pop artists in music, Grammy winner George Benson is quite simply the best! From the classic In Fight album, this remake of War's staple cut has always been one of my favorites. I love playing it in my dj sets, when I get the rare opportunity to play out! I just decided to make a more dj-friendly version with some solid drum work to fill it out. It's one of those songs that when you hear it, it takes you somewhere else. 
I hope your dancing and listening journey is good with this joint!

Here's another one of my personal edits that I've never planned on releasing in the Underdog vinyl series. Kool And The Gang's Open Sesame is an unadulterated disco classic. So why do an re-edit of it, you may ask? I, actually, did it on a dare. DJ Wayne Williams of the legendary DJ collective, The Chosen Few (http://www.chosenfewdjs.com) asked me to do a re-edit set of songs that he selected, for him to debut at their now-famous House Music Festival. To be honest, I wasn't too crazy about the choices, including this one. I loved the song as it was, but he dared me to do a edit of it. So, after a more focused listening, I noticed that even though there was a 12'' version of the song, the mix wasn't that DJ friendly. And sometimes with edits, you add your own vision of the song. So, I gave it a more dubby intro and a new drum outro. I think it didn't turn out too bad! Well, you be the judge!

Toxica24 Electro Dutch House Tape 2013

As a tribute to my good friend, Dimitri From Paris (dfp), here's something that few have heard in its entirety and many would like! A few years ago, I gave a copy of this great cut from disco legends Gary's Gang to Dim (Dim &amp; I have been trading music with each other for many years). Little that I knew that he would like the edit so much, that he featured it on his great mix compilation, Return To The Playboy Mansion. To say that it was an honor to have my edit on the compilation was an understatement! There was some talk about releasing the edit, but it never materialized.
And at that time, the great Danny Krivit had released his edit of the song. So, alone it sat in the Underdog Edit archives, hoping one day it will be heard. Well, today's the day! Enjoy!
And to Dim, thank you for all the great music over the years and the great friendship that I will always cherish. Bonne Journée!
