In recent months, the extent of mass surveillance has become common knowledge. With a few clicks of the mouse the state can access your mobile device, your e-mail, your social networking and Internet searches. 

It can follow your political leanings and activities and, in partnership with Internet corporations, it collects and stores your data, and thus can predict your consumption and behaviour. 

The basic pillar of democracy is the inviolable integrity of the individual. Human integrity extends beyond the physical body. In their thoughts and in their personal environments and communications, all humans have the right to remain unobserved and unmolested. 

This fundamental human right has been rendered null and void through abuse of technological developments by states and corporations for mass surveillance purposes.

A person under surveillance is no longer free; a society under surveillance is no longer a democracy.

To maintain any validity, our democratic rights must apply in virtual as in real space.

* Surveillance violates the private sphere and compromises freedom of thought and opinion. 

* Mass surveillance treats every citizen as a potential suspect. It overturns one of our historical  triumphs, the presumption of innocence. 

* Surveillance makes the individual transparent, while the state and the corporation operate in secret. As we have seen, this power is being systemically abused.

* Surveillance is theft. This data is not public property: it belongs to us. When it is used to predict our behaviour, we are robbed of something else: the principle of free will crucial to democratic liberty.

WE DEMAND THE RIGHT for all people to determine, as democratic citizens, to what extent their personal data may be legally collected, stored and processed, and by whom; to obtain information on where their data is stored and how it is being used; to obtain the deletion of their data if it has been illegally collected and stored.

WE CALL ON ALL STATES AND CORPORATIONS to respect these rights.

WE CALL ON ALL CITIZENS to stand up and defend these rights.

WE CALL ON THE UNITED NATIONS to acknowledge the central importance of protecting civil rights in the digital age, and to create an International Bill of Digital Rights. 

WE CALL ON GOVERNMENTS to sign and adhere to such a convention.

Over the past few years we have been watching the internet and how governments all over the world are treating it. 
The government of the People's Republic of China has systematically silenced its citizens and not allowed them unrestricted and free access to the World Wide Web. The governments of the world are in either in too much of a state of cowardice to act to work to give the Chinese people a voice, or have been involving themselves in performing exactly what the Government of China has been doing. 
Even the United States Government is considering restricting its citizen's access to the internet. 
We are watching you, governments. 
We are everywhere. 
This is an unacceptable state of affairs. 
The government should serve the people, not some corporate enterprise, as in the United States, or itself, as in China. 
People, realize that these very two countries are one of the most powerful, and what happens in them will affect you. We all are human beings, and should be provided equal opportunities. 
The fact is that people often ignore the Chinese People's plight, and this is acceptable considering that such blockades on our freedom of expression are being imposed in our own countries, however we should not completely forget any repression on the people, like that is done in China routinely. 
Anonymous does not necessarily endorse hacking, like what other anonymous are doing, it is merely a collage of people expressing ideas without letting the ideas get chained by attaching them to their names. Ideas are only free when they are anonymous. Legislation by the people against this systematic repression of free speech is a matter of the preservation of our humanity. 
The very fact we have to anonymously voice our opinions exposes the fact that our civil rights are being attacked. 
We are Anonymous!

privacy means freedom.
If privacy is restricted, this consequently means a restriction of freedom.
A freedom that is actually assured to us be laws and constitutions of our governments.
But what is happening now, right in front of our eyes? These laws and are being spurned by some politicians. With specious justifications it is tried OVER AND OVER again to introduce the retention of data which actually concerns all citizens and so makes each and every one of us AND YOU a possible suspect. The EU is secretly trying to tie the so-called "Deep Packet Inspection known as D P i" into EU-right.

You did not commit a crime? No matter, you could be planning one though.
You don't even know anybody who plans, planned, commited or thought about commiting one? No matter, you could know somebody though. 
The retention of data, also called mininum data retention or minimum retention period, means that personal data is stored by public insitutions without the actual need for this data. They are stored in case they could be needed one day.

Lobbyists even demand the annulment of privacy protection instructions of copyright laws. Deep Packet Inspection is a detailed inspection of internet data concerning their content. So bevor the receiver knows, what the dispatcher sent, some third person knows all about it. And evaluates it.
This is a general suspicion of all citizens which cannot and will not be tolerated.

Politics wants to regularise. It wants to clarify. But most of all, it wants to control and monitor. THIS is not what we want. This is not the reason why we allow elected politicians to rule.
It should be a priviledge to be part of the democratic formation of a state and its people. And it is called TO FORM and not undemocratically set EVERYONE under general suspicion.
Politicians or lobbyists who demand retention of data or Deep Packet Inspection justify their demands with the concern about safety. One wants to prevent terror. Prevent attacks. Prevent crimes before they even happen. As we learned the hard way from Breivik, Charlie Hebdo and many killings sprees in agencies or schools though, retention of data and supervision of data traffic is an inappropriate mean for anticipating these things.

Politicians who demand retention of data obviously imagine it as a magic ball which can be turned on as they wish, you look into it and see who plans which crime. This is wishful thinking and only a dream. Something like this cannot work.
Politicians who demand retention of data are conceived by justifications of copyright security. Lead by the idea of profit, not common sense.
In the last days one cite has been disputed which came up because of the death of a widely known actor. "The well-being of the many is worth more than the well-being of the few or of the individual."
Even politicians who demand surveillance now applaud to this cite and ignore it in their next breath.

THE PEOPLE OF ALL STATES OF THE EU DO NOT WANT SURVEILLANCE.
THEY WANT RESPECT FOR THEIR PRIVACY.
THE WANT RESPECT FOR THEIR DATA.
THEY WANT RESPECT FOR THEIR FREEDOM.

The one who does not comply with this wish acts against the will of the people by whom he was elected.
There has to be other ways of the prevention of crimes. There has to be other ways to prevent terror. There is some much energy wasted on retention of data and the introduction of a surveillance of data, shouldn't be that energy used to find other possibilities?
On June 13th of 2015 we want to hit the streets together.

Against rentention of data.

Against general suspicion.
For the security of data.
For privacy.

You can not join Anonymous. Nobody can join Anonymous.
Anonymous is not an organization. It is not a club, a party or even a movement. There is no charter, no manifest, no membership fees. Anonymous has no leaders, no gurus, no ideologists. In fact, it does not even have a fixed ideology.

How to get in contact with others?

How do I recognize other Anonymous?
We come from all places of society: We are students, workers, clerks, unemployed; We are young or old, we wear smart clothes or rugs, we are hedonists, ascetics, joy riders or activists. We come from all races, countries and ethnicities. We are many.

We are your neighbours, your co-workers, your hairdressers, your bus drivers and your network administrators. We are the guy on the street with the suitcase and the girl in the bar you are trying to chat up. We are anonymous. Many of us like to wear Guy Fawkes masks on demonstrations. Some of us even show them in their profile pictures in social networks. That helps to recognize each other.

Have you been infiltrated?
If you talk to another Anonymous, you will never know who he is. He may be a hacker, cracker, phisher, agent, spy, provocateur - or just the guy from next door. Or his daughter. It is not illegal to be Anonymous. Nor is it illegal to wear Guy Fawkes masks. Keep that in mind. If you personally have not been involved in illegal activities, you have nothing to worry, no matter whom you talk to; If you have, it is wise not to talk about it. To no one.

How do I protect my privacy?
Invent an alias, a nick, a pseudonym ... call it as you will, just invent something. Then register a mail account in that name with one of the big mail providers. Use this email address to register your Twitter, Facebook, etc. accounts. Make sure to clear all cookies before you start using your new identity, or better use a different web browser for Anonymous than for your other activities.

If you have higher needs for security, ask us about encryption, steganography, TOR, etc. Many of us know how to use them.We will always respect your need for privacy. We will never ask for your personal information. If we do, we will not expect a truthful answer; And neither should you.

What is the right thing to do?
The only person who can tell you what is right for you is yourself. This is also the only person you should follow. We have no leaders. You are also the only person responsible for your actions. Do what you think is right. Do not what you think is wrong.

Dear activists for the protection of privacy, dear people from all over the European Union, dear mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters. Since 2009, the EU has been subsidizing the INDECT project with millions of Euros. Even though several media outlets have already reported about this networked surveillance technology, only few EU citizens know what it is supposed to be. The application of INDECT aims to analyze conspicuous behavior to prevent crimes, in virtual life as well as in real life, before they actually happen. Not only does this sound crazy, it is cutting deeply into our basic right to privacy, because those cameras will be able to replicate scanned personal biometrical features with existing digital files about persons in databases such as social networks. Hence, every person could be retraced and supervised, anybody who says or does anything "abnormal" or anything which the system considers to be "threatening" both on the internet and in real life, is potentially suspicious. We have been accepting the claims of disclosure of our private data for too long in order to prevent acts of terrorism. People started to accept being treated as potential terrorists or criminals, being more and more deprived of their basic rights, and allowing the surveillance society to gain increased control over them. Basic rights weren't given to us as a matter of course, but many generations kept fighting for them. Don't let those rights be taken away from us now! These days, we see the situation in Spain where calls for protests are criminalized by the government. Though the right to protest is an essential part of free speech, we should not tolerate the increasingly upcoming undemocratic features in the EU which mostly hide under the cloak of suppression of terrorism. And therefore we should move NOW and tell the citizens of the European Union about this project, which has been kept as a secret for so many years.
