The Dhammapada, an anthology of 423 verses, has long been recognised as one of the masterpieces of early Buddhist literature. From ancient times to the present, the Dhammapada has been regarded as the most succinct expression of the Buddha's teaching. It has been said that if all of the Christian Bible were to become lost and only the Sermon on the Mount remained, that the core truths of the teachings of Jesus could still be known and understood. Within the vastness of the Buddhist Cannon, I believe the same holds true for the Dhammapada. Spoken some 500 years before the time of Jesus, these truths continue to be a guiding light for millions world wide.
