After almost four years, the new album is finally finished. To be honest, I never planned it. It came about in stages. Sometimes haltingly, sometimes smoothly, and sometimes not at all. In the end, though, I can say that it's the most personal of all my previous albums.

Preston has been my friend and trusted ear for maybe.. 6 or 7 years? Originally Madeon turned me onto him and his collection of drafts and wips (most of which are still unreleased [why p?]) and we (m machine) demanded a remix. He reworked A King Alone which I'm positive was the longest running non-original song we played out over the years. It's so good, and fit into every version of a show we ever had -- Anyway I'm just glad he's releasing original music now so I can return the favor.

Restless (original) is so huuge! Immediately my favorite from the EP. But it didn't turn out to be particular easy to remix. Couple days into messing with stems I always have SOMETHING, just a spark at least. But here, there's no vocal, the hook is all tied to these giant chords with no real voice lead to steal. And to make matters worse I was living in Colombia and working on a super barebones laptop setup (none of my sounds/samples/plugs etc).

Eventually tho.. I dug out this inaudible flute bit (I’m a sucker for the flutes). It’s screechy and wicked high (2 octaves above what you hear at 2:52 of my remix) and just artifacty, messy and perfect. So I bolster it up with my own flutey sensibilities, make it the centerpiece of my remix, and write the rest of the song from the inside out.

Congrats on this last year P and all the big moves ahead. I love your music and I hope we keep trading remixes on into irrelevance.
