thank you to everyone who came along and saw my set at Your Shot 2023. a really surreal experience, and its crazy to think that 2 months ago, I had no idea how to dj. but everyone did so amazingly. this is a re-record of the mix i played (my first ever dj set ever ever ever), so i threw in some nu-disco/classic disco/kaytra/arab songs that i love. enjoy, y'all <3

for this mix, i want you to picture yourself at a rooftop party. there's a light-up dancefloor and a disco ball that's actually spinning. everyones drinking margaritas and long islands, with shirts un-buttoned and brightly coloured dresses swaying.

in recent years ive fallen in love with disco and dance music, new and old. its got such a long and rich history, and whilst it might not be as relevant as it once was, disco and its influence on modern dance music today is never lost on me. with this mix, i wanted to use some dance tracks and edits from around the world, some iconic dance classics, nu-disco tracks that sample older ones and other tracks i just have been loving. idk man i am jus absolutely loving this genre and this style and i'd love to hear your thoughts.

"DJing definitely feels like a boys club most days. I was standing in a VIP line once trying to enter a club I was about to play at, when a guy in front of me turned around and said, ‘The line’s over there. This is for guestlist only.’ While I definitely enjoyed getting to reply ‘I’m a DJ playing here tonight.’, it felt like a reminder of how sometimes it’s hard to be taken seriously as a female DJ."

"As much as it sucks, this isn’t new to me. When I started my engineering degree, it was always 1 girl for every group of 5 guys in groupwork, or it was being talked over, or it was being asked extra questions when getting marked because there’s no way I knew that. While it feels like some days it’s easier to just be a cisgendered man, I’ve definitely learned to love being a woman. In the same vein, being a woman means supporting other women too. They just go hand in hand."

"I looked at past mixes when trying to create this one, and was surprised at just how many DJs featured in my sets were male. This mix gave me the opportunity to look for FLINTA artists in particular, and I found so many that I can’t wait to have in future sets. Music has always been important to me in forming communities, and with every new DJ I meet, I’m reminded of the inclusivity that continues to be fostered overtime. Discovering more FLINTA artists and giving them platforms such as this one to be featured is just another way to keep these creative spaces open and welcoming."
