This was my contribution for part 1 – Disquiet Junto Project 0591: The Loneliest Number

Here’s a copy of my post on the Disquiet Junto 0591 discussion thread:

64 step synth sequence created using Devicemeister StepicVST and ThePhonoLoop Tapes.01 plugins in Ableton Live. The sequence repeats with subtle random variations to note duration and velocity till the end. 

Created in D major pentatonic, 96 BPM. Have fun chopping, slicing,  distorting, layering, etc.

The underlying drone C3-G3-F3 pattern was voiced with the Abstract Crystal Pads plugin from Samplescience. The Cm pentatonic bells are an FM patch in Kilohearts Phase Plant. The original tempo is 85bpm but there is plenty of scope to stretch time and/or chop to fit with lower register and percussion additions.
This track is part one of Disquiet Junto Project 0591 - to record the first part of a trio that will be subsequently downloaded and added to by other Disquiet members.

Dronely Bells [disquiet0591]

A sequenced modular patch using the 2HP Pluck as the only voice and passed through a couple of guitar pedals (Digital Delay, then Digital Reverb).

There are two KORG SQ-1s providing the sequence. One of seven steps and the other of five. The two CVs are XORed and passed to the V/Oct of the Pluck. Meanwhile, the gate from one SQ-1 is combined with the output of a 2HP Euclid, then passed through a Mystic Circuits ANA to create stepped triggers that trigger the Pluck. The resulting pluck is then passed through a VCA, which is modulated by an ADSR being triggered by the 180 bpm clock. During the recording, I vary the release on the ADSR to change the intensity of the 'bongos'.

Disquiet Junto Project 0591: The Loneliest Number
The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Experimenting a bit more with feedback after last week’s DisquietJunto.
From a longer recording of these experiments I stitched together different sections, choosing mainly ones that were relatively sparse, in order to leave room for more layers.

Practical info: Although the use of envelopes and filters makes the sounds mostly percussive, I did use specific notes/chords to create them, and so it may be useful to know these:
Am7 (a-c-e-g); B/A (a-d#-f#-b); G+/A (a-b-d#-g). Notes are from the A dorian #4 scale (mode of E harm minor).
The tempo is 78.5 bpm.
