In the period between 1998 to 2019 Boo Boo Davis used to come and tour in Europe several times each year. Most of his music was written and recorded during these tours.  

The worldwide Covid disaster changed that tradition. But with the help of the internet and our mutual friend Chris Brown in St Louis, the guys from ElectroBluesSociety (Netherlands) and Boo Boo started to work on new music. 

The result of these 'online quarantaine sessions' is released as a string of single tracks. Covid may stop live shows for a while but it can not stop the creation of new music.

solo acoustic recordings of Karatepe dating back to 2005 and 2006, “Hard Times” represents a timeframe of an era in Izmir (Turkey); a city, rarely hosts a space for loyal performers of traditional blues forms. Born and based in Lüleburgaz (a modest city, located on the Bulgarian – Turkish border) since 2017, Karatepe is skilled on creating a silky and a liquid style while covering most known tunes of legendary names such as Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Charles Brown, Big Bill Broonzy and Ray Charles.

The Project: Record the sound of ice in a glass and make something with it.

These ice samples were recorded by whirling ice cubes in a growler back in 2017. I looped a section and processed that through a Make Noise Strega, recording the piece mostly as one improvised take where I 'played' the filter to create layers of feedback in the delay. There is one overdub where I improvised repitching the same ice loop in Samplr and also processed that through the Strega, creating different tones of delay feedback. There's a bit of judicious volume envelope editing added in post to calm the feedback swells a bit. It all reminded me of a slow motion version of the wild ricochet sounds made by dropping ice down a bored ice core well.
