Six, count 'em, six! boogie bangers 

So you've just dropped 'Never Too Much' at the request of that pesky group of well meaning keen beens at the front of the dancefloor. Here are a plethora of tracks that you can follow it with. 'Love You So Much' is basically an ode to the aforementioned classic, with it's silky Vandross-eque vocals courtesy of XXX. Production-wise Ziggy Phunk has absolute nailed that classic 80s sound, more so than any producer we've heard recently. Away from the smoocher we get 'Alone Without You' which is more like a Fatback Band anthem, looped up percussion, big synth stabs, slap bass, digital horns and a sweet jittered female vocal to boot. All perfect for the Connoisseurs Corner at the Southport Weekender. rate: 9/10

Just in time for pool party season comes the latest endeavor from Cancun-based producer The Funk District. Riding a cool, summery breeze straight out of the Yucatan is “Robot Soul”, a super-groovy affair that features remixes from Richard Seaborne (Midnight Riot!) and Hotbox plus a B-side offering in the form of “Right To Humanity”. With previous releases by The Funk District on trusted imprints like Editorial Records, Paper Disco, and Deep Sense, Whiskey Pickle are proud to welcome this budding talent to the fold.

Kicking things off, The Funk District gets things nice and warm with his original take on “Robot Soul”, relying on smooth organ pads, delayed guitar riffs, and a silky bass line. Richard Seaborne’s remix amps up the tempo and adds some funky flute riffs and a mean Moog bass while Hotbox’s dub remix is stripped down and hypnotic. Closing up the shop is the equally funky “Right To Humanity”, a perfect pairing to the lead cut with its fluid guitar riffs, vocoder vox, and cheeky vinyl cracklings.

For this third record on the Mochi label, after successfully having released remixes of UK jazz funk sensation Resolution 88 (MR001) and latin funk act Setena (MR002), the Mochi Men got the honor to work with legendary acid jazz outfit Brooklyn Funk Essentials, remixing ‘Watcha Want From Me’, a tune co-written by Frankie Knuckles and BFE’s Lati Kronlund. Re-recorded and included on BFE’s brand new album ‘Stay Good’ (Dorado 2019), the song has been given the Mochi treatment resulting in an uplifting piece of authentic soulful house, promising to be a timeless club anthem and embellished with an extra Young Pulse dub version.
