Eric Craven = drums, radiators, contact mics on metal, mounted skateboard slung with bass strings, pedals, electronics, live loops, feedback, and chop shop imitations.
Mark Molnar = cello, electronics, pedals, live loops, feedback, mallets, palm sander, and grinding gears against steep incline.

This is what will take its toll where one leaves off and the other begins.

Invited by a fellow composer to write a quintet for a local (Chicago) woodwind group. Until experimenting with the medium, was never excited about classical woodwind quintet music as a listener, finding it a bit colorless and treble-centric I suppose. My solution included some doubling on cor anglais, bass clarinet, and piccolo, and lots of stopped horn to expand the usual range and color. I'm indebted to Christie Vohs (clarinet) and the San Benedetto Winds for doing the first workshopping of this piece, and to Charlotte Cerminaro (horn) and Susan Telford (flute) for arranging its premier public performance.

Black Bough was formed in the early winter light of 2007 out of an overwhelming need to kick back against the corporate interests that are destroying the seeds of originality and growth in local cultures. The label is dedicated to music that crosses, without prejudice, the boundaries between the forward thinking punk rock that grew out of the 1980's hardcore, experimental music, avant- and art-rock, electro-acoustic constructions, old world Gospel, and contemporary left-field music.
