‘Narost’ is the starting track and its as intense as you’d imagine from a set of Russian drum & bass producers. Jaunty grooves, floods of kicking drum patterns and crunching LFOs punctuate the mix, as it drives full throttle into each breakdown. 2Whales do what they do in a destructive manner, with each relay of beats helping to give the track a more harmonious undertow. They produce a record which would cut deep into any DJ set, especially with its synth-layered peak midway.
The second tracks comes in the form of ‘Jump On Me’. With almost questioning sonics opening through to its intro, percussion heavy slabs lead into cascading bass layers, which then breaks into its first drop. 2Whales includes a mixture of light and dark elements to build these two tracks. And in doing so, presents the versatility which is the core of their production.
