The ISM sound has not fallen to far from the tree from which it started, The production is still stripped back and organic sounding, the vibe is still deep and dark, but the boundary's have been pushed far from that which are normally excepted as bass music.

 As their name suggests, Double_Negative are a positive force within the  New Zealand breakbeat scene. The lads, met at an audio engineering course in 2002 and have been making waves in the breakbeat scene ever since. They began with drum n bass tunes and eventually progressed to producing solid, original breakbeat tunes which formed a unique sound, some dark and techy, others atmospheric but altogether their own. Double_Negative has been DJing at various venues over the last decade and also featured on the Electric Caboose show on Radio Active 89fm. They have DJ’d alongside major players: Freq Nasty, Rouge Element, Breakfastaz, Plump Djs, Stanton Warriors, Krafty Cuts, NAPT & Atomic Hooligan. Double_Negative have also had their own tunes released on UK label: Mechanoise, US label Trans:verse, RUNE:RECORDINGS, Supalife and NZs own Empathy Recordings. They have also worked on remixes and collaborations with The Upbeats (NZ), Neztic (Mexico) and White Papoo (France). Having developed a techy and bass driven production sound, Double_Negative are committed and devoted producers always on the search for the best breaks and phattest bass lines.

Hailing from the legendary underground nightclub Fu Bar in Auckland NZ, Cern (aka Ollie) has been putting out records for nearly 15 years, a body of work which has grown into a diverse and varied collection of solo and collaborative releases.

Cern is known for his brooding productions which evoke a visceral response in the listener through their texture and tension.

With two LPs to his name, ‘Terminus’ (2011, Project 51/Uprising) and ‘Under Another Sky’ (2014, Dispatch Recordings), Cern has also released music on labels including Renegade Hardware, Commercial Suicide, Samurai Music, 31 Records and many more. He has also collaborated with artists such as DLR, Jubei, Loxy, Sabre, One Mind, Concord Dawn & Nymfo.

Of mixed Kiwi and Japanese descent, Natalie Ex aka Excelle has been seamlessly fusing together a myriad of musical genres for the last 17 years. Her sets are heavily inspired by 80s and 90s nostalgia, spinning everything from disco, new wave, yacht rock and city pop - to RnB classics, house and garage. Originally from New Zealand’s club and festival DJ scene, Nat quickly moved into hosting on community radio, and is just as comfortable piecing together the perfect down-tempo lounge set as she is keeping a dance floor heaving all night. 
 
A freelance Graphic Designer and Illustrator by trade, Natalie approaches each gig with the same design sensibilities, taking musical inspiration from the unique energy of the venue and audience to freestyle the perfect collage of songs. Her passion as a DJ is to share her obscure music knowledge, but to never be too cool to drop fun, sing-along jams or hands in the air classics.
 
Nat moved to Melbourne from her native Wellington in 2012. Since then, she has become a regular DJ across venues such as Black Cat, Howler, Workshop Bar, The National, and Lucky Coq. She has been lucky enough to share the decks with many musical legends such as DJ Krush, DJ Zinc, Jillionaire (Major Lazer), LTJ Bukem, Oneman, Mosca, Pearson Sound, Ikonika, Kode 9, Gaslamp Killer, Lorn, Samiyam etc

Now a decade old, Empathy Recordings has become an icon of quality, innovation. What started as a small indie label from New Zealand, run by a bunch of mates with nothing better to do, has grown into a collective of talented artists who are continually pushing the envelope of electronic music, wiping away frowns and striving to bring about ear to ear bass grins. Empathy has released music from countless producers, many of whom have gone on to become some of the biggest names in their respective genres. Empathy served as the proving ground for artists like Opiuo, K+Lab & The Upbeats, who first honed and developed their trademark sounds on the imprint.
