The B1 sees Dexter remix ‘Splinter Foot Girl’ into a stripped back electro cut with sharp drum hits sticking out of the growling bass stabs. The original’s dark and twisted vocal is left in place and some extra radiant synths are squeezed into the mix and the mid point, making way for amore coarse drum workouts in the latter half. Buy the EP digitally and you will also be treated to a VIP remix of ‘Splinter Foot Girl’ that gets all boisterous and ravey with prickly drums, churning percussion and plenty of height in the kicks. Outer-space music made on hardware is the label’s MO and makes for a perfect descriptor of this EP.

Not much more than a year has passed since the Zenker Brothers presented their debut EP – ‘Lion in Mars’ – on Tresor Records.

The follow-up record segues perfectly between a triumphant year in the studio and in performance, and a 2014 which promises to take their growing reputation for blazing techno to new heights. ‘Stratus Phunk’ is an incendiary record, developing the ideas seeded in their first release to their fullest extent.

The title track runs along the entire A-side. Building the raw acoustic sounds of wind instruments into a rolling jam which soon becomes an unstoppable locomotive, shapeshifting in and out of smoky synth lines, tracky hi-hats and acetic basslines, « Stratusphunk » is a vintage tune forged in the Tresor basement furnace.

On the flip, « Thirty-Who » and « Vamp Like » explore the more splintered dimensions of the Münich based brothers’ work, familiar to whoever follows the releases on their own Ilian Tape label.

Solid Steel Radio Show 21/12/2012 Part 3 + 4 - Coldcut

Solid Steel in association with Serato (21st December) The votes are in and it's been a tight contest, but the Solid Steel Mix of the Year 2012 as voted by the listeners, goes to Banks and his mix from October. We take another listen to part of his mix and first up it's his transformation of The Keeper by Bonobo and then onto Deco Child, the excellent Anti-Pop Consortium remixed by Four Tet, before dropping his second remix which is a sublime rework of 'Lost where I belong' by Andreya Triana. The mix continues to flow with Modeselektor, Orbital from '94, Lusine and the collaboration between Four Tet, Burial and Thom Yorke. 
DJ Irk sets us up for Xmas with a few seasonal snippets, alongside music from Kraddy, Q-Tip, Method Man and Koan Sound, plus classics from Al Green and the Beastie Boys.
