I was asked to play at my first ever bush doof - what a time...

I arrived thinking I'd be playing the opening set at 5pm to actually playing the second set of the weekend - 9pm to 1030pm. The energy was set to just where I like it and I got to play one of the funnest sets of my fledging career - some afro house, some techno, a tiny bit of melodic; I had such a great time.

Thank you to everyone who had a dance and thank you for all the positive feedback and a huge thank you to the organisers for asking me to join the fun - eternally grateful and humbled. 

Incidentally, I was in the right place at the right time with my trusty usb's and got to play a bonus unexpected second set the next arvo. That was chill african goodness, I will post that shortly.

Again guys, thank you for including me. Music sets me free every day; and boy, do I love this wonderful community I belong to.

It was an absolute honour and pleasure to be asked to open for Thick as Thieves and Untitled Group's event on Saturday 3 July 2021.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 1hr15 mins and received a great deal of positive feedback, much of it from people who had never heard me play or heard of me at all. That positive feedback absolutely made my night, thank you to everyone who came to have a chat with me.

Things I have said about Revolver Upstairs:

That it is my spiritual home.
That it is my church and it is where I heal my hurts.
That during isolation I had a Revs-shaped hole in my life.
That in the past I moved 15 mins walk away when I left an ex so that the Revs dancefloor could help me process and heal.
That I love Revs and Revs loves me back.
Once I was on a date and the dude started talking smack about Revolver - I wound things up very quickly after that and haven't seen or spoken to him since.
That Revs on a Sunday is Sunday Service and we are a family.
That all roads lead to Revs.
That I like living my Revs life.
Revsforevs.

So you can see how I might have been a bit overinvested and uptight maybe. Afterwards I focussed on what I could have done better, a touch overcritical. However I have since had good feedback, the most convincing of which got back to me from  friends of a friend who do not know me at all so had no reason to be nice - they enjoyed my set, which makes me super happy.

I played from 3am to 530am, thank you for having me Revolver Thursdays!

I owe someone a guest mix but this isn't quite right for me to submit. For the first time I genuinely wish I had 3  cdjs at home. I'm going to put it to the universe... you never know... maybe one day. It's been an emotional and intense few weeks. I'm on point in some areas but dropping the ball in others. I miss my dad. I'm used to missing my family, I left home at 19 and only went back every 2 or 3 years - by choice, there's a whole world out there I wanted to see in my 4 weeks annual leave (bs by the way, this is why I loved temping). I meant to go home in 2020, my mum came to Australia in 2018, so I hadn't seen my father in 6 years. 

He never promised he would live forever. Yet somehow I seem to have assumed he would.

When I walked into my set for Revolver Upstairs on Thursday I was thinking about you Wilson, not the playlist I had put together. I was thinking about the times I've looked up from frowning and squinting at the decks to see the big encouraging smile on your face as you bounced around to my music. And the times you and I would lock eyes across the dance floor and simultaneously make our way to right in front of the dj booth to get a bit extra to whatever tune it was that especially caught our fancy. I was thinking of this slow burner of a friendship we were building,  a small  favour here and there, one conversation at a time - it was like we would surprise each other, I would recognise the look in your eyes when I said something that really resonated with you and vice versa. I loved you and I know you valued me. I was dedicating my Revs set to you when I walked up those steps on Thursday. The last time I dedicated a set to someone at Revs it was for my dad, just a few weeks short of a year ago. And again, the emotion that I struggle to sit with let alone express somehow comes through in the music. 

You were loved Wilson, by so many. You will be sorely missed. Some of our community will never be the same again, their hearts ripped out in an instant. We will all come to terms, eventually, with this loss, but you will never be forgotten. 

One of the most genuine and upfront young men I have had the pleasure of knowing. To those closest to you - I think he is in the universe now. Everywhere. He will watch over and encourage his loved ones and I encourage you to honour his life and his love with your every action for the rest of your days.

I've been so inspired by the amazing DJs I've supported over the past few weeks - Patrick Topping, Henry Saiz... and I've been pinching myself - to be playing on the same stage as them (earlier but still), and other  incredible artists like Osunlade and Madmotormiquel.

In two days I will have been playing for 2 years. With the support and encouragement of a number of individuals, I have had the chance to play many times and at some really special events. Thank you to everyone who has booked me - to be trusted to bring a vibe is a privilege I do not take lightly.

In the last week or two I've been wishing I could experience one of my sets the way everyone else does. So not just the bigger soundsystem but for example  hearing a great afro house track for the first time, even if all the tracks were familiar, to not know what's coming next. I love the music I play, I think I have decent taste, but the phenomenal feedback I have been receiving especially recently - from my opening set at Patrick Topping's Trick show, to a 3 hour Revs close on 26 January, then my first festival set at Festival No. 23, and opening a packed front room at Revs for Hardware's Boris Afterparty then my set at Bourke Street Courtyard... it has been amazing and humbling.

All of your incredible words - the things you guys are saying to me... I know you aren't just being nice. I am delighted that my vibe is resonating with so many of you.

These are the tracks I played at Patrick Topping's Trick show in Melbourne on Saturday 14th January 2023. 

It's been over 3 weeks since Trick. I've had this mix ready to upload since then. But it has taken this long for it to finally sink in - Trick at Pica happened. 

Because there is no way I will ever hear my own set from the perspective of someone on the dancefloor, in the last few weeks I have had to accept that I actually really do bring quite a vibe. More so than I can understand from the business end. But. What's important is how much YOU love it. My joy comes from you - watching the dance floor as I play. Catching some emotion flit across someone's face. Mass bass face. Spontaneous rounds of applause. When I make you feel something through the tunes I I have found. 

Now that I have worked this out it all makes sense to me  Trick was not a dream, it was real, that was me. Just like every other amazing event. 

External validation shouldn't define anyone, but it's always lovely to receive enthusiastic positive feedback, especially early on in a career, and you have helped me see that I really am doing something right. I'm on the right track. 

I'll keep playing so long as I keep getting booked. So thank you. Black  Tiger would be nothing without your support. 

I don't own a recorder - if you want to hear a live set, at this stage you have to come see me in action IRL.  I personally like to relive my sets by recording them from history for SoundCloud - they are pretty close to the originals.

I'm currently obsessed with the title track - One Of Us Feat. Forrest (Dennis Ferrer Remix) by Sabb, it's been about a year that I've been FEELING this track, I think it's a keeper. 

It's from 2020, I believe I'm known for being partial to a bit of a nostalgic vibe. There are plenty of DJs out there who can bring you the latest music. I check recent releases out every so often but I do love to go back in time and reclaim the tracks that I used to love or find the ones I missed from before I started playing myself. 

Back to tracks I am obsessed with... probably most of the tracks in this mix... Korzeine, Bad Guy, Two Months Off, Dazed by Kaz James, 1000 Miles of Empty Space, Push by Joeski... come on.  So much perfection from these producers, it is a little ridiculous.

Some I found myself like Push;  the rest I can tell you where I was when I first heard it and which DJ I heard it from - for example Korzeine - in my apartment in St Kilda, early lockdown, Kid's Table, club recording on SoundCloud.
