For the 5th birthday of Art Bei Ton we're happy to celebrate with a special podcast from a special artist and friend, the Italian DJ and Producer Feral.

Mostly known for his rich and hypnotic live sets, he recorded for us a very deep and subtle DJ mix, showing a vast musical knowledge and an extreme quality in the mixing. With many percussive elements, and a vast array of soundscapes, this mix stands out for its clean sound and complex grooves organized in a smooth arrangement.

Marked by his awakened sensibility to depth, Feral consistently carries a thread of spirituality throughout his work.  He has inherently embodied the spirit of deep techno, of which defines Hypnus Records, through his passion for audio engineering, hardware experimentation and fascination for percussive instruments.

Feral’s affinity for the shamanic calls of the tribal drum have led him across the world to discover and nurture his defining sound. Finding comfort in the solitude of his studio, Feral’s visions emerge in the crepuscular hours of his native city, Rome.  With a heightened sense of spatial awareness, the sounds of Feral unearth the path of his multidimensional world, transporting the listener to a haunting, yet grounding refuge within.

Jonas aka Kontinum, who grew up in the far north of Germany, moved to Leipzig after 20 years of wind and rain. There he was quickly inspired by the prevailing sounds of the @institut-fuer-zukunft and finally started the Kontinum project in 2016 with a focus on atmospheric and dissociative Techno. Over the years, the palette of sounds grew and now ranges from ambient to deep techno to contemporary club-oriented techno. 
In 2017, he founded the @nebulakollektiv with a couple of friends and started hosting the first illegal events. In the course of time, Nebula has also found its way into the Leipzig club scene and is now an integral part of it.
2022 up to 2024 he held a residency at Institut fuer Zukunft and he still co-host of the infamous Aequalis events after the closure of IFZ.
Over the years, Jonas has continued to develop and perfect his own sound pivoting from
conventional techno towards more genre-fluid styles.

Few artists can match the influence that Enrique Mena, AKA Svreca, and his label Semantica have had on contemporary techno. With over 20 years in the DJ booth, 200-plus releases on the label and some acclaimed original productions and remixes, Svreca has spearheaded techno’s second generation, helping maintain Madrid as an international hub for deep and driving sounds. 

As a DJ, Svreca draws from a wide sonic palette that includes noise, dub, avant-garde electronics, electro and, of course, techno. First, it was luminaries like Angel Molina and Oscar Mulero that inspired him; since then he has made it his mission to survey the scene and connect with its most original artists. He funnels these influences into a powerful techno sound for body and mind: immersive, textural and rhythmically complex. Whether in an open-air festival setting or a blistering, pitch-back basement, Svreca’s sets—always delivered with technical precision—are a psychedelic, physical experience. 

His sets are also inextricably linked to Semantica. It’s a two way relationship: the label has become a consistently excellent breeding ground for new talent, as well as home to some of techno’s finest artists. Equally, Svreca draws inspiration from shared moments on a dance floor to fuel the label’s creative direction. From its austere aesthetic (designed by Mena himself) to its boundless exploration of new formats, Semantica encapsulates the heady spirit of experimental techno. 

Across all Svreca's means of expression, one thing is a constant: the music comes first. Less talking, more doing. It’s a formula he has stood by, and delivered the quality of music needed to back it up.

Art Bei Ton Podcast ¹³⁰: Svreca

"Save Your Atoll" is a project started in 2019 by Italian artist Antonello Meloni from Sardinia, focusing on deep sound and techno with ambient and atmospheric elements enriched by groove-driven storytelling. After a year of podcasts, he began releasing original productions in 2020, including singles and EPs influenced by artists like Burial. He has released music on international labels such as Fur:ther Sessions, Oslated, and Dosis Records, and performed as a resident DJ. Prominent underground artists support his work and continues to evolve with new releases and remixes through 2024/25.

This months podcast is contributed by Luigi Tozzi who is also going to play at our next event on November 19th at Griessmühle along with Härdstedt, CNCPT and Dash.
Luigi has emerged as one of the key figues of the italian deep techno scene since his first releases on Hypnus Records in 2014. Since then his sound has only become more elaborated. The focus on details and atmospheres in his first album Deep Blue: Volume 2 is just spectacular. Definitely one of our favorite albums this year!
