Steinway artist, Chad Lawson, decided Chopin needed a new introduction.  Along with violinist Judy Kang (Lady Gaga, Ryuichi Sakamoto) and cellist Rubin Kodheli (Kanye West, Norah Jones), Lawson has arranged ten Chopin works into a minimalist landscape.

It's a risk editing the "poet of the piano" but one that Chopin would be proud of.  

Taking 10 Chopin works, Lawson decided to scale the works down to a minimalist setting.  "I knew even if bare-bones, Chopin's works could still be as spellbinding as the original compositions we are so familiar with." says the pianist.

This song features a very slow tempo (30 bpm) with a gentle and soothing sound.  I used a straight beat with even spaced and smooth notes to create a flowing sound.  There is repetition in song structure, chord progression, and with the notes placement on the beats. Three electric dulcimer tracks intertwined a descending bass line with an ascending melody creating a cool auditory experience. There are a variety of sounds and textures present  but it is not over whelming.  The song has an atmospheric and immersive feel due to Valhalla reverbs and generous panning of tracks in Logic Pro.

My primary focus on this song was to experiment with descending bass lines/ascending melody lines with my electric dulcimer.   Also, I continued my exploration of different chord progressions and used Curtis Jones's "High 51 Blues" chord progression.  Note that although the song has a traditional blues chord progression it's not a bluesy song as my intent was to create a unique ambient soundscape experience.

In listening to this track it reminded me of the tranquility of childhood kayaking in ocean bays.
