DJ Sodeyama’s murky alias The People in Fog is up next for a very special number. The DJ/producer has been active since the 90s, reshaping his home city, extensively touring the globe, releasing music, founding record labels (Arpa) and toying with different incarnations of his palette under a few different names. The People In Fog is one such project, founded a decade ago as license to lean into his more disco and house inclinations, a means of connecting with a lighter penchant for Chicago-style and Balearic rhythms. It’s a manifestation that’s given the world several first-rate releases like debut album A Ray of Light (2013), Album: 1977 (2021) and this year’s Too Much Knobs and Cables. His whistle-stop promo tour of Japan for that latest release has been whipping up plenty of shifting grooves and phase distortions, and delivering that fresh take on sound to IRL crowds in his native land. For the rest of us, the nine-tracker’s a perfect source for summer anthems: a fuzzy, analog patchwork of synths and low-end bass. Bassiani Podcast 273 takes all of this and turns up the heat, The People In Fog’s deep reverence for underground sounds is here for a two-hour mash up of grimy percussions and sensuous urban sounds. Episode 240 brings a transmission from Decoder, the Dallas-based artist crafting hyper-minimalist body music with a distinct sci-fi sensibility.

Through releases on storied labels like Axis and Molecular, as well as modern outposts such as Blank Code, Float, AMTK+, and his own imprints Codec and Toca Records, Decoder has shaped a sound that feels engineered for deep space — stark, rhythmic, and precise.

His work has drawn the attention of techno’s most forward-thinking figures, including Jeff Mills, Rrose, Amotik, and Richie Hawtin, the latter bringing him on an international tour spanning North America, Europe, and India. Decoder’s performances at venues like De School, Fold, and Watergate reflect his alignment with the more experimental edges of the genre.

This mix is not just a set — it’s architecture in motion. Sparse, physical, and charged with tension. All of the tracks featured here are unreleased material by Decoder, offering an exclusive preview of what’s to come.

This week we’re blessed to welcome a true legend of the techno game with Rolando taking over RYC waves for a two-hour jaunt into otherworldly floor narratives and lushly-forested sonic landscapes. Now operating out of Edinburgh, the former Underground Resistance member - forever associated with the timeless classic ‘Knights of the Jaguar’ - has laid the foundation to a ceaselessly compelling body of work, including key releases on Ostgut Ton, Delsin and his own imprint, R3. Championing a sound most entrancingly dynamic, largely informed by groove, jazz and Latin percussions, Rolando graces us with a mix that combines the finest of his signature mystic-imbued vision and sixth sense for crafting some of the most memorable club experiences to be had. Tapping in his love for polyamorous Detroit techno and house combinations, mostly leaning into the more soulful side of his hometown’s heritage rather than the industrial edge, Rolando embarks us on a ride across shape-shifting technoid boogie reliefs and further uncharted routes. Brace yourselves for some of the lushest, most immersive and distinctive techno heroics around.

It’s back to the strange, mind-expanding world of Zenaari with an episode from Moroccan techno master Chami. Leaving his homeland for France was an epiphany, Lyon the place where his passion for beats kicked-off. Since then, he’s relocated to Berlin and become synonymous with a clean, rhythmic and mentally-focused sound played exclusively on vinyl. It’s raw and unforgiving techno primed for body and soul, Berlin to the letter and a constant dialogue with the city’s ever-changing zeitgeist. Foregrounding burgeoning talents through his and Olivia Mendez’s DIG Curated, playing as half of Face 2 Face with DJ peer OPH, and key figure in Berlin-based collective Minijob (whose calling is in organising underground raves in and around the city), Chami’s plate is more than full. But it’s passion for sound that drives him, visceral basslines his bread and butter. Breaking with the expected, there’s a further facet to his sound, one that occupies the focus of this next Zenaari number: jazz. Not quite as far as it might superficially seem, Chami’s feeling for rhythm and knack for progressively stacked up moods translates flawlessly, but if it helps there’s a few warped percussions to move things along. This is an expert fusion of his musical universe, a Podcast that probes the possibilities offered by the superimposition of these two sonic languages and develops something new in response. Two sides of a coin: Chami’s slamming beats and soothing jazz are a window onto the spectrum of his talents, 68 minutes of compelling sounds from a Berlin mainstay.
