DJ Eivissa for Rave Utopia, Radio RBL

Marteka Fair is a techno DJ from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Drawing from a background in acoustic percussion, Fair expresses a sophisticated concept of time and precise internal rhythm through the decks. Marked by repetitious, emergent ostinati and intense drive, her style in the booth explores the outer reaches of harmony and submerges the listener in a bold, sonorous, hypnotic experience. With a relentless focus on body rhythm by using creative filtering and nonlinear rhythmic interactions between tracks, Fair's performances disorientate, reorientate, and induce movement at a core level.

Most recently, Fair is developing and performing a mixed-media concert series called "Liminal Space," crossing techno with the visual realm alongside North Carolina-based video artist Fluxxss.

Centrific Communion 2025

Ich weiß nicht, wann genau es angefangen hat. Vielleicht war es dieser erste flirrende Ton, kaum greifbar, fast wie ein Gedanke, der durch einen halbdunklen Raum schwebt. Société - Pale Drifter, sagt mir jemand neben mir. Alles ist noch weich, langsam, organisch. Kein Beat, nur Andeutung. Ich spüre, wie sich etwas aufbaut. 

Dann - plötzlich - der erste Kick. Dezent, aber unübersehbar. Etwas in mir richtet sich auf. Ich merke: Ich bin angekommen.
Der Raum lebt. Die Musik beginnt zu wechseln - nicht abrupt, eher wie ein Strom, der die Richtung ändert. Dub schleicht sich ein, und mit ihm dieser reduzierte Groove, der mehr fragt als antwortet. 
Und dann: Brass Destruction - laut, mutig, völlig ungeniert. 

Es ist dieser Moment, in dem etwas kippt. Die Zurückhaltung fällt, die Energie wird anders. Körperlicher. Der Groove packt uns - nicht aggressiv, eher verspielt, mit einem Hauch Wahnsinn.
Als Static Rhythm: Control kommt, wird es ernst. Die Drums sind härter, schärfer. Mein Körper folgt, ohne zu fragen. Ich tanze jetzt nicht mehr, ich reagiere. Der Dancefloor ist keine Fläche mehr, sondern etwas, das pulsiert und mich mitnimmt.

Und dann - der Bruch. Kein harter Cut, aber ein Aufatmen. House. Klassisch. Akkorde wie Lichtstrahlen, Vocals wie Umarmungen. Ich erkenne die Stimme sofort - Deborah Cox. Ihre Wärme trifft mich unerwartet tief. Plötzlich ist all das hier nicht mehr nur Musik, sondern Erinnerung.

Als der letzte Ton verklingt, bleibe ich kurz stehen. Ich schaue mich um - wir alle haben etwas durchquert. Nicht nur ein Set, sondern eine Geschichte. Eine, die zwischen Tiefe und Euphorie pendelte, zwischen innerem Echo und äußerem Rausch.

Ich lächle und gehe langsam raus.

Marteka Fair is a DJ and producer from North Carolina whose work explores rhythm as both structure and sensation. Her background in acoustic percussion informs a deeply-embedded control of time in her sets—favoring nonlinear layering, tonal restraint, and kinetic tension.

Marteka is an active performer in the United States. Her performance resume features direct support sets for forward-listening electronic artists like Rrose, Rødhåd, DVS1, and Bloody Mary, as well as performances at Slingshot Festival and The Great Beyond. In the digital domain, she has recorded and released mixes for HÖR, Refuge Worldwide, and THF Radio, expressing sharp rhythmic architecture and hypnotic intensity through these recordings.

In March 2025, she released a four-track EP titled “Ether” on Berlin-based W133—raw, spacious, and deeply rhythmic, with an emphasis on percussive structure and temporal tension. She is also co-creating Liminal Space, a live concert series with visual artist Fluxxss that merges sound and image into a shared, sensory environment.

"When I was younger, I used to watch Pop-Up Video on VH1 in the early mornings before school. I distinctly remember watching the music video for “Groove is in the Heart” and being captivated not only by the iconoclastic visuals but by the uniqueness of the style of music I was hearing. From then on, I became a collector of tunes from all eras.  Whether it be Dee-lite from the 90’s or T-Rex from the early 70’s. If it was to my taste, I would research and listen to everything by that artist to an obsessive degree and share my love for them through CD mixtapes and now streaming playlists. It was only after I delved more into playing Techno and House as a DJ and producer did I feel like I was part of this club of music makers. As a constant in my life, music has always been a medium that shows the breadth of the human experience and I wanted to select songs for this playlist that reflected my own experience. Spanning across several genres including New Wave, alternative and leftfield electronica, these tracks have been deep cuts in my personal listening library for years and hold a special place in my heart and memory. 

The cover image is part of a series of nature photos I've been taking throughout the years. For me, being outside and walking around listening to an album cover to cover feels rejuvenating and often cathartic if I’m in a rough headspace. For episode 241, we welcome Aztekan, a Los Angeles-based artist known for his deep, hypnotic approach to techno. With releases on labels like Olympian, Illegal Alien, and EvilGroove, his sound blends tension, movement, and restraint. Through his imprints Aztekan, BashTech Radio, and Kenopsic Events, he continues to shape a vision of techno that is immersive and uncompromising.

This mix was recorded live from Aztekan’s closing set at the Peer label showcase for Direct to Earth in San Francisco, August 1st, 2025. This mix offers a focused, atmospheric journey into his world.
