My name is Zach Goodman, also known as Back Woodman. I was born and raised in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, Palatine to be exact. When I graduated high school, I attended Baylor University in Waco, TX where I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I have since gotten a job down in Houston which is where I am now.

From an early age, I had a strong connection with music. Whenever I was throwing a tantrum of some sort, my mom would pop in a CD with the soundtrack of one of my favorite shows, and I would instantly calm down. I was the kid who knew every word to every popular song, because I wanted to sing them and impress people. Ultimately I would guess this annoyed people more than anything. 

As I said before, I’ve always been interested in music, but I never thought about the production side. That changed quickly during my tenure in college. My junior year at Baylor, I came in last place in a fantasy football league that I was in with some friends from back in Chicago. The punishment was to write a diss track about a kid from our high school who was trying to become a rapper. I reluctantly accepted the challenge, but the outcome was something unexpected. When I first put it out on SoundCloud and posted the link to my socials, there was a massive response from people I hadn’t heard from in years. The guy I wrote the track about even wrote a diss track about me in return. The support I received for something that I put very little effort into is what made me want to learn more about production.

Shortly after the diss track, I started toying around with a music program that was owned by Spotify called Soundtrap. The 2020 Pandemic provided me with a lot of free time to experiment with the sounds I could potentially use and arrange. Using the samples provided in this program and the studios in the basement of Moody Library on Baylor’s campus, I was able to create my first playlist of songs. This playlist was named “James St Joints” as an homage to the house in Waco where I lived at the time. This playlist was an amalgamation of emotions and experiences that defined who I was in that moment. It was slapped together in a matter of months, and because of this I didn’t receive the response for which I had hoped. 

A year later, after I had graduated and was looking for a job, I found myself using my spare time to create beats again. One night, my friends and I came back from a local Waco watering hole known as Scruffy Murphy’s and decided to freestyle over some of the beats I had made. We found ourselves returning to the same line over and over again: “Waco, Summer, At Scruffs.” This sparked the inspiration that became “Waco Summer Freestyle.” Although this was meant to be a fun throw away song, I found myself spending the majority of my time tweaking and editing this song to make it sound professional. The final product ended up being an anthem that the owners of Scruffs dubbed “The best song that’s ever been made about this place.” 

Since then, I have been in Houston workshopping ideas for new beats and new songs. I can assure my listeners that the music I will be releasing in the future will have tons of effort and some newfound experience behind it. Above all, this music to come will be an honest reflection of the life I live, the emotions I feel, and the man I am.
