the willow draped down like a shroud
the sparrow and gnat, falcon and cloud
each tier of the skies its sentinel
and it comforts some part of me

still falcons scream miles high
please fly me to the pass
put out my belongings with the trash on the sidewalk

to the great green, the common world

set out those flowers on a grave

each history comes
to its final act
they’re under those stones

mom called just to say
Joanne passed away
if i don’t pick up the phone again
can I freeze time and keep what’s lost

is it friendship that’s causing us

put all that trouble in a box stashed away
