Annathema was formed in Novi Sad, in October 1982. Band was founded by the drummer Miodrag Balaban STAVRA, the bass player Mirko Zivkovic CVELE and the guitarists Vojislav Ilic USAR who used to sing as well and Dragan Radojcic RADOJA.
The first gig was accomplished in April 1983, and playlist consisted of their favourite bands Judas Priest, Van Halen, AC/DC and Motorhead.
In the summer of 1985, Voja Usar was replaced by the guitarist Branimir Vukobratovic and the singer Dusa Uvalic FRANCUZ. The band started their own projets and made mini demo with 5 songs. After short time, Vukobratovic was replaced by Milan Vujkov VUJA. During the period form 1986 to 1989, they had performances all over former Yugoslavia and they were crowned by their first album ANNATHEMA.
On TIM festival in Timisoara (Romania) they reached international popularity. The album EMPIRE OF NOISE appeared in autumn of 1990 and immediately became the cult album. Unfourtanetly, Balcanic wars ruined raised career of the band.
Annathema gathered together six years later. In May 1998, with the guitar player Ljubomir Pejic instead of Radoja, they made the album DON'T GO DOWN! About 2000, Francuz and Ljuba left the group.
After many personal changes, in the new millenium, original former members Stavra, Cvele and Vuja established lineup with guitarist Marko Milovanovic and singer Blaza Vasilic.
