Reputedly the Godfather of Montreal Disco Robert Ouimet’s career as a deejay started in the early 1970’s at a small club on Guy Street where he worked for a little over a year known as The Love. His obvious talent for “moving and grooving” the crowd was soon noticed and mid-1973 he was approached to join the in-house staff of a newly-opened club on Stanley St. called The Limelight where he remained as their principal deejay from 1973 to 1981.

In addition to his role as a disc jockey Robert was a regular contributor to The Steede Report, published in Montreal from 1975 to 1979, writing a column dedicated to the recent arrivals of imported records. Also he was responsible for remixing Francine McGhee’s vocal/instrumental mixes of “Feeling Good and Delirium”, on the charts listing the 15 best songs in the UK for 1977, and also Gino Soccio’s “The Visitors”, having been a consultant to Soccio for his first 3 LP’s. Also remixed Aura LA Sunshine...

Furthermore, Robert co-produced many records licensed in the US by such labels as TK Records, RFC/Warner Bros., Arista, and Quality Records of Canada, featuring artists like “Mighty Pope”, “Karen Silver” and “Star City”.

In 1977 also Robert went on to win Billboard Magazine’s “Best Canadian DJ Award”. Similarly he received Gold records for introducing his public to such artists as “Boney M”, “Donna Summer”, “Musique” and “Gino Soccio” to name but a few, plus a special commemorative plaque/mirror from the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack. He also was the import editor for US Mag Dance Music Report (DMR)
Early in the 90’s, Robert was signed as recording artist by Hi-Bias Records that released over a dozen 12 inch singles which were all very well received and especially so by the British press. Also, he worked at “Numusic”, Canada’s largest independent music specializing in imported music and where he did many remixes for their labels including a special mix of “Master At Work” with the track “Voices”.

In 1993 he went on to win a Juno Award with his partner, Miguel Graça, for Best Dance Song: “Thankful” performed by the Red Light group. During the late 90’s, with some friends Robert founded a vinyl records dance distribution outfit called “Nice Music”.

Robert played for Red Bull Music Academy in 2016, has monthly radio shows on Acxit Web Radio here in Canada & in the States on Crib Radio.
Robert Played for the Toronto Gay pride in 2013. Played Gay Pride Montreal with Christian Pronovost for Mondo Disko in 2018. 2021. Had 2 records released in the UK on Basic Fingers in 2018/19.
in 2018 Formed TWINZZ with musical partner David Godin, did a remix for international artist  Arthur Baker Rockers Revenge, released in 2019.

Black Light Disco boomeranged back onto the  myhouseradio.fm  airwaves with another show oozing with class and stroking the beard of the avant garde. 

This week, as our Panic Room here in BLD Towers is being refitted with soft furnishings and ambient lighting, our two residents Goz and Esteban are on site to oversee things, and decided to do an impromptu show from the piano bar in the lobby. 

First up for this week’s Sonic Sojourn is Goz, who has gathered up an armful of quality tunes which will get the juices flowing and the feet a-tapping. There’s been something cooking in Goz’s kitchen, and it’s getting dished out. Hot. 

For the second hour Esteban will be nudging up the BPM with what he describes as “A pseudo-angry high energy set that deals exclusively with revenge and mortality”. We think he’s been at the marker pens again, but we’ll handle it. Don’t worry.

Evening Funkier Episode 110 - 29th December 2022

'The Daydream Disco Mix Series' aims to bring you the best nudisco, soul, funk and house vibes to kick start your week. Each mix is made up of 10 of our favourites tracks at the moment. This week we bring you Clint H!

Hailing from East London, Clint H aka Clint Hards love for music and the DJ scene has been constant and unbroken since an early age. 

He fell in love with the DJ/nightlife scene when he first visited the famous white isle (Ibiza) As soon as he got back he decided to buy a pair of technics 1210's and spent the following years building up a collection of music and knowledge of various genres.

Clint has played in a number of venues in London in his surrounding areas and is currently a resident with the Alchemist bar chain. He is also currently playing at the world famous Sushi Samba, Heron Tower in Bishopgate where he has spent the last year as resident for one of the disco scenes most influential people Moodena, and his monthly Moodena Presents event.

He has been lucky to share the DJ booth with some of the scenes big hitters such as CJ Mackintosh, Dave Lee, Young Pulse, Birdee, Javi Frias and the late, great Mighty Mouse.

Clint's musical style is based on a blend of Disco, Nu Disco, Soul Funk Disco and Soulful House.

Clint also has his weekly Beats @ Brunch radio show on one of London's leading dance music stations Shine 879.

His guest mix delivers a mixture of fine vocals, full on funk and uplifting disco heat!

This is definitely one for all you disco heads out there!!

The idea of Black Light Disco became a real thing when a few like-minded DJs and producers came together to put on a night showcasing the very best in disco, house and funk and everything in between. Our ethos is based around a very simple concept: GOOD MUSIC, GOOD TIMES with GOOD PEOPLE. We announced ourselves on a gorgeous sunny Saturday in June 2019 with an all day and night party in Liverpool’s thriving Baltic Triangle area. It was the start of something very special. 

We have a solid core group of musical talent residing in BLD Towers hailing from England, Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland and Italy -  providing perfectly cooked grooves and juicy basslines. 

The BLD team comprises of Esteban, Goz (Spin City), Pookie Knights, Cole Kutz (Opentempo.fm) De Gama and Fingerman (Hot Digits) – clocking up decades of DJ’ing and dancefloor experience between us. As individuals, the BLD team have been producing consistently high quality sets over the last few years. Now, as a collective, the aim is to make Black Light Disco THE place to promote new music and to bring you the very best in established/up-and-coming artists and producers in the sunlit uplands of sonic pleasure. 

In January 2020, we launched a weekly show on THE biggest house music FM radio station in New York, MyHouseRadio.fm (also available digitally at www.myhouseradio.fm).  The Black Light Disco Show airs every Monday exclusive to MyHouse Radio between 7pm – 9pm GMT (2pm -4pm EST), bringing you the finest in disco, funk and boogie; all delivered by our expert in-house Sonic Consultants (resident DJs) with guest mixes from the hottest producers, DJs and artists out there right now.
