Feel Love Friday with Christian Woodyatt (and guests Alex Hunter & Sam Shelley) | 2nd May 2025

A forgotten classic from 1997, rediscovered by the new generation of house leaders.

Originally released in the late ’90s, Marius Acke’s Crucial Traxx EP series is one of those rare gems — deep, funky, soulful, and full of the raw, analog groove that defines the golden age of house. Missed by many at the time, the records are now enjoying a well-deserved revival, championed by today’s leading selectors like Dam Swindle, ANOTR, Chris Stussy, Jamie Jones, Disclosure, Barry Can't Swim, Salute, Chloé Caillet, Known Artist, Sidney Charles, Shonky, Danny Howard and more.

Already a respected figure in the Antwerp scene back then, Marius Acke had co-produced numerous records for Mixz Productions and the iconic ARS label, including remixes for acts like Technotronic. His sound blended US-influenced house with early hip-hop sensibilities and deep, synth-laced textures, earning him a cult following among vinyl diggers and local DJs alike.

Happiness Therapy is proud to give new life to this essential piece of Belgian house history with a reissue of the Crucial Traxx EP series. All tracks have been carefully remastered and will be available on both vinyl and digital formats, including a special limited edition of 100 translucent red vinyl copies. HTCT01 marks the beginning of a reissue series dedicated to the lost gems of Marius Acke’s discography.

More than just a nostalgic reissue, this EP reminds us how visionary Acke’s sound truly was. Rooted in the 90s, but crafted with a timeless sense of balance and soul.

This week’s show was an 80s special where I teamed up with my friend Max Galactic to unleash two hours of nostalgia and good time grooves from a fabulous era of music.

My special guest Max is a serious talent who brings passion and joy to his sets, and the best way to introduce him is to simply share the DJ profile from his social media, which is fun, playful and totally accurate :-)

“Glitter, sequins, big smiles and big tunes - get set for a stellar journey through the biggest house and disco anthems of all time! Nothing too serious, nothing too underground - just a middle-aged guy clinging on to his youth, jumping around behind the decks and generally getting far too excited. It’s dance-floor bangers, disco debauchery and high-energy party house all the way, with a bit of funk & soul chucked in for good measure!

I’ve been involved in running parties, club nights and festivals for twenty plus years, and been taking DJing seriously for the last four or five. I’ve played alongside Craig Charles, Rob da Bank, Sister Bliss, Tall Paul and Norman Jay on the way, and DJ’d at Wilderness, Larmer Tree, Camp Bestival, El Dorado, Green Man, Big Feastival, Big Love, Nile Rodger's (Chic) Meltdown at the Southbank, Merthyr Rising, and Abergavenny and Hay Festivals.”

The Black Light Disco Show dives back onto the My House Radio airwaves - plumping the pillows and cushions and emptying the ash trays ready for another musical journey. 

This week we’ve got our own resident dastardly duo of Esteban & Cole Kutz back on hosting duties, and what a two hours they have in store for you lovely people! 
The lads have plotted and schemed this one over the last few weeks and have come up with a very distinct ‘tropical’ flavoured show - befitting of the sunshine we’re currently enjoying here in the UK.

The idea of Black Light Disco became a real thing when a few like-minded DJs and producers came together to put on a night showcasing the very best in disco, house and funk and everything in between. Our ethos is based around a very simple concept: GOOD MUSIC, GOOD TIMES with GOOD PEOPLE. We announced ourselves on a gorgeous sunny Saturday in June 2019 with an all day and night party in Liverpool’s thriving Baltic Triangle area. It was the start of something very special. 

We have a solid core group of musical talent residing in BLD Towers hailing from England, Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland and Italy -  providing perfectly cooked grooves and juicy basslines. 

The BLD team comprises of Esteban, Goz (Spin City), Pookie Knights, Cole Kutz (Opentempo.fm) De Gama and Fingerman (Hot Digits) – clocking up decades of DJ’ing and dancefloor experience between us. As individuals, the BLD team have been producing consistently high quality sets over the last few years. Now, as a collective, the aim is to make Black Light Disco THE place to promote new music and to bring you the very best in established/up-and-coming artists and producers in the sunlit uplands of sonic pleasure. 

In January 2020, we launched a weekly show on THE biggest house music FM radio station in New York, MyHouseRadio.fm (also available digitally at www.myhouseradio.fm).  The Black Light Disco Show airs every Monday exclusive to MyHouse Radio between 7pm – 9pm GMT (2pm -4pm EST), bringing you the finest in disco, funk and boogie; all delivered by our expert in-house Sonic Consultants (resident DJs) with guest mixes from the hottest producers, DJs and artists out there right now.
