BLD 4th July 2021 with Pookie Knights

It’s been a a scorcher out there this week, people - and Black Light Disco breezed back on the myhouseradio.fm airwaves with a Summer Special that’ll have you dancing in your paddling pools and reaching for the Factor Funk! 

Hosting the show from the sun terrace at BLD Towers this week was our resident Esteban aka Ste Hendry - who was dishing out ice-cold refreshments from The Magic Track, Disco Suicide Club, HP Vince, Joe Cleen, Natasha Kitty Kat and Dexter Jones to name but six! 

Over the next two weeks we are thrilled to present a takeover of the BLD airwaves by the superb ‘Project Bango’. We kick things off with Part 1 this Monday and Part 2 (logically) following next week. 

So what is Project Bango? Well, its is the successful club brand created by DJ’s Lee ‘Evil’ Smarty and Paul Groves. What started out as a bit of fun and a desire to showcase some great music, rapidly morphed into an instant hit in their hometown of Guildford. As avid record collectors of both old and new music, their DJ style can be as varied as their taste in music. Whilst they’re best known for filling dancefloors with infectious basslines, disco-funk, edits and house, ‘Evil’ and Paul enjoy playing just about anything as long as it’ll put a smile on people’s faces.

First up for this takeover is the amazingly talented and all-round lovely ooman bean, Paul Groves. Paul discovered the delights of DJ’ing in the early 90’s and could regularly be found bringing upfront party-house vibes to bars, clubs and underground parties throughout London and Brighton. After taking a ten-year break from DJ’ing, Paul re-discovered his love of dance music in 2010 with a particular focus on the emerging edits/disco scene and has enjoyed being part of the scene ever since.

We just know that this is gonna delight you in ways you never thought was possible.

The Black Light Disco show launched itself into the myhouseradio.fm stratosphere one more with another classic to get your feet tappin’ and your fingers a-poppin. 

Taking control of the decks in the 'sonic sensory room' deep within BLD Towers is our resident Esteban (aka Ste Hendry), who was spinning tunes form the likes of Pete Maxey & Art of Tones, Lup Ino, Reverendos of Soul, Phonk D, Vaudafunk and D.C La Rue to name but a few. 

For the second hour, we have one of the hottest names on the scene right now on guest mix duties, someone who we’ve really been looking forward to inviting on -  Rafael Yapudjian!

Rafael Yapudjian is considered one of the great names in the Brazilian House/Disco scene and has a consistent and unique musical repertoire that brings together tracks from Soulful to Nu Disco, which incorporate sound roots from Funk and Jazz and resulting in a quite intoxicating blend for the dance floor.

A veteran of over 20 years of career, he had his first DJ residency in the former São Paulo club, Cheers, and as a result, came into the night through the booths of Vinyl and Museum, also including residency at the illustrious Pacha São Paulo, where he did many warm ups for names ranging from Louie Vega to FatBoy Slim. This opportunity opened doors for him to explore the four corners of Brazil and the world, stamping passports in Germany, Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Portugal, Switzerland and Italy, to name a few.

He played at the traditional Creamfields Brasil and other major festivals, and has also won awards for 'best Deep and Soulful House DJ' by DJ Sound (2011)and 'Top 50 DJs' by House Mag and Best New DJ by VIP magazine in 2015.

Rafael is also the name behind A Casa Records and the Music Branding company D’Sound Solutions, which currently complies over 200 clients throughout Brazil. In short, he is the complete artist - always open to new sounds and constantly reinventing himself around his true passion: music.

For our first exclusive Black Light Disco guest mix, we're very honoured to have the one and only...Smashed Atoms! 

Smashed Atoms is the musical alter-ego of Steve Gladdis, a North-London-based producer and DJ. Starting his musical journey as a drummer, Steve began DJing in the late 1990s, manning the decks at underground parties, bars and clubs in London throughout the next two decades.  

In recent years, he has turned his considerable talents to production, releasing his first EP, Solar Flare in 2014. Since then he’s released a number of EPs, put out two 12" vinyl releases on his own Magic Circles Music label and has featured on compilations from Paper Disco, Hot Digits and Stripped Recordings.

Cut This Way, which became the lead track on the fourth Smashed Atoms EP, featured in sets from Greg Wilson, Peza and Chris Massey, catching the ear of Gregg Holmes aka Fingerman, who released the EP on Hot Digits Music. Cut This Way deservedly hit number one in Juno download's disco chart, with airplay on Nemone's Electric Ladyland show on BBC Radio 6 Music. 

A new Smashed Atoms EP will arrive soon and which features a collaboration with singer Kathy Diamond. Steve has included a track from the new EP, -  'All The Time' exclusively in this mix.

Steve loves the ethos of the eras just before, and just after, the original disco peak period - when DJs played music from any genre as long as it sounded good on a dancefloor, and he brings that eclectic approach to his DJing and productions.

Here at BLD we're huge admirers of his and we're absolutely delighted to have him on board for this exclusive guest mix. You're gonna love it!

For the Black Light Disco show which aired on MyHouse Radio Monday 10th Feb 2020 we had a very special guest - Gary Jones (aka Gazzz696). Hailing from Wrexham in North Wales, Gary has built a huge, huge subscriber base on his YouTube channel (almost 77k at the last count)and has a solid reputation for giving plays ahead of release on respected labels such as Tropical Disco, Samosa Records, Whiskey Disco and Toy Tonics to name but a few. We were delighted to have Gary on as a guest on Black Light Disco and his set absolutely knocked it out of the proverbial park!

Black Light Disco Show 10th Feb 2020 - Esteban & Gary Jones (Gazzz 696)

The Black Light Disco show airs exclusively on the #1 house music station on the planet - myhouseradio.fm. Tune in every Monday from 2pm-4pm EST, 7pm-4pm GMT, 8pm-10pm CET. 

The idea of Black Light Disco became a real thing when a few like-minded DJs and producers came together to put on a night showcasing the very best in disco, house and funk and everything in between. Our ethos is based around a very simple concept: GOOD MUSIC, GOOD TIMES with GOOD PEOPLE. We announced ourselves on a gorgeous sunny Saturday in June 2019 with an all day and night party in Liverpool’s thriving Baltic Triangle area. It was the start of something very special. 

We have a solid core group of musical talent residing in BLD Towers hailing from England, Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland and Italy -  providing perfectly cooked grooves and juicy basslines. 

The BLD team comprises of Esteban, Goz (Spin City), Pookie Knights, Cole Kutz (Opentempo.fm) De Gama and Fingerman (Hot Digits) – clocking up decades of DJ’ing and dancefloor experience between us. As individuals, the BLD team have been producing consistently high quality sets over the last few years. Now, as a collective, the aim is to make Black Light Disco THE place to promote new music and to bring you the very best in established/up-and-coming artists and producers in the sunlit uplands of sonic pleasure. 

In January 2020, we launched a weekly show on THE biggest house music FM radio station in New York, MyHouseRadio.fm (also available digitally at www.myhouseradio.fm).  The Black Light Disco Show airs every Monday exclusive to MyHouse Radio between 7pm – 9pm GMT (2pm -4pm EST), bringing you the finest in disco, funk and boogie; all delivered by our expert in-house Sonic Consultants (resident DJs) with guest mixes from the hottest producers, DJs and artists out there right now.
