Freedom Tape for Bon Entendeur

For our first exclusive Black Light Disco guest mix, we're very honoured to have the one and only...Smashed Atoms! 

Smashed Atoms is the musical alter-ego of Steve Gladdis, a North-London-based producer and DJ. Starting his musical journey as a drummer, Steve began DJing in the late 1990s, manning the decks at underground parties, bars and clubs in London throughout the next two decades.  

In recent years, he has turned his considerable talents to production, releasing his first EP, Solar Flare in 2014. Since then he’s released a number of EPs, put out two 12" vinyl releases on his own Magic Circles Music label and has featured on compilations from Paper Disco, Hot Digits and Stripped Recordings.

Cut This Way, which became the lead track on the fourth Smashed Atoms EP, featured in sets from Greg Wilson, Peza and Chris Massey, catching the ear of Gregg Holmes aka Fingerman, who released the EP on Hot Digits Music. Cut This Way deservedly hit number one in Juno download's disco chart, with airplay on Nemone's Electric Ladyland show on BBC Radio 6 Music. 

A new Smashed Atoms EP will arrive soon and which features a collaboration with singer Kathy Diamond. Steve has included a track from the new EP, -  'All The Time' exclusively in this mix.

Steve loves the ethos of the eras just before, and just after, the original disco peak period - when DJs played music from any genre as long as it sounded good on a dancefloor, and he brings that eclectic approach to his DJing and productions.

Here at BLD we're huge admirers of his and we're absolutely delighted to have him on board for this exclusive guest mix. You're gonna love it!

Black Light Disco Show Monday 13th Jan 2020 - Goz & Esteban

For our third show (which aired on NYC's MyHouse Radio on Monday 20th January 2020) we handed over the whole two hours to our dynamic duo and jewel in the BLD crown, Pookie Knights.

Hailing from Wrexham in Wales, Pookie Knights have been with us from the very early beginnings of Black Light Disco and are firmly part of the BLD family. To see these two play live is an experience that shouldn't be missed. Their sets are always full of raw, disco energy and that energy has translated seamlessly into their own productions. With their first release out on Spin Cat Music, it's only a matter of time before you'll see Pookie Knights topping the likes of Juno and Traxsource download charts.  

Their two hour show on MyHouse Radio was a pulsating, throbbing disco juggernaut featuring tracks from The Reflex, Chewy Rubs, Lip Ino, Ari Bald, Shit Hot Soundsystem, Stephen Richards, Dirty Channels, Tech Support plus many, many more!

Airing on NYC's MyHouse Radio on Monday 3rd Feb 2020, Black Light Disco resident Sonic Consultants Dirty Old Vinyl and Goz were on hosting duties providing their unique brand of funky, slinky vibes. For the Black Light Disco show which aired on MyHouse Radio Monday 10th Feb 2020 we had a very special guest - Gary Jones (aka Gazzz696). Hailing from Wrexham in North Wales, Gary has built a huge, huge subscriber base on his YouTube channel (almost 77k at the last count)and has a solid reputation for giving plays ahead of release on respected labels such as Tropical Disco, Samosa Records, Whiskey Disco and Toy Tonics to name but a few. We were delighted to have Gary on as a guest on Black Light Disco and his set absolutely knocked it out of the proverbial park!

Here we have a DJ/Producer well respected for his contribution to House and Disco, impeccable edits and dance floor tunes. But this episode of Bside will take us on a trip down memory lane, back to his soulful roots and the influences that ultimately define his sound.

Plying his trade as DJ and record collector in Madrid, Javi would soon share his joyful music with the world. From New York to Mexico City, from Berlin to Cairo, dance floors felt the boogie funk of Javi Frias.

In the last few years Javi has also gained notoriety as a producer in his own right, releasing on an array of record labels ( Tropical Disco Records, Giant Cuts, Midnight Riot etc. ) before starting his own in 2017. Night Shift Records houses a discography of his own club ready disco edits as well as mentionable contributions from Chassé and Never Dull.

Black Light Disco swung back onto the MyHouse Radio airwaves with a show packed to the rafters with knee slappin’ foot tappin’ hifalutin’ good time music. 

Starting things off from behind the BLD Bar and music podium is our resident, Goz - who was serving up the disco punch and giving a two for one offer on the Manhattan Funk cocktails. 

For the second hour of the show we’re delighted to have the one and only Pete Ellison on guest mix duties. 

Pete has been DJ’ing since 1998, earning his stripes playing vinyl and running his own Hard House night. More recently he started a London DJ collective called ‘Serendipity’ who throw underground events and boat parties, with the whole crew typically playing back-to-back all night at their events. 

Pete has had a similar journey to BLD, starting his own weekly broadcast series last year ‘Feel Good Friday Radio Show’ which is growing from strength to strength and has featured some of the biggest names on the Nu-Disco scene as guests. This, ladies and gents, is a corker. A corking corker!

As a young kid, I fell eternally in love with this exotic name, courtesy of a legendary summer day of 86, where France and Brazil offered what many see as the ultimate soccer game. A theatrical quest for Beauty way bigger than sport. Anyway, when the cool team at Planeta radio reached out to me, I simply could not refuse...so here is a special sunny disco set for Guadalajara, as a little tribute to the beautiful blue and yellow dancers of 86.

Sought after Parisian dj & producer Young Pulse is dropping his first EP "Love Will Bring It", the result of his true dedication to the disco sound.

Renowned for his sound signature on reworks of disco/boogie tunes from the late 70's - early 80's, and his successful remixes of french pop legends like Veronique Sanson, Françoise Hardy, Sheila… it was just about time to release his own material !

The single "Love Will Bring It" is an original disco track involving the powerful South African singer Natalie Nova. "There's Never Been (No One Like You)" is a cover of the undergound disco-boogie favorite, and the third track is a garage spin of the classic "Keep The Fire Burning" with the warm vocals of UK house singer Natasha Watts.

"Love Will Bring It" is an uplifting EP, crafted for today's dancefloors. Produced with love, passion, admiration and respect for the beautiful era of dance music.

We announced ourselves on a gorgeous sunny Saturday in June 2019 with an all day and night party in Liverpool’s thriving Baltic Triangle area. It was the start of something very special. 

We have a solid core group of musical talent residing in BLD Towers hailing from England, Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland and Italy -  providing perfectly cooked grooves and juicy basslines. 

The BLD team comprises of Esteban, Goz (Spin City), Pookie Knights, Cole Kutz (Opentempo.fm) De Gama and Fingerman (Hot Digits) – clocking up decades of DJ’ing and dancefloor experience between us. As individuals, the BLD team have been producing consistently high quality sets over the last few years. Now, as a collective, the aim is to make Black Light Disco THE place to promote new music and to bring you the very best in established/up-and-coming artists and producers in the sunlit uplands of sonic pleasure. 

In January 2020, we launched a weekly show on THE biggest house music FM radio station in New York, MyHouseRadio.fm (also available digitally at www.myhouseradio.fm).  The Black Light Disco Show airs every Monday exclusive to MyHouse Radio between 7pm – 9pm GMT (2pm -4pm EST), bringing you the finest in disco, funk and boogie; all delivered by our expert in-house Sonic Consultants (resident DJs) with guest mixes from the hottest producers, DJs and artists out there right now.
