It has been quite some time since the last time we gathered for a night of MBTS. I wanted to take some time after the pandemic to be quiet and see how the dance music scene would evolve, and what sounds would come out of the standstill that was Covid. Now that I have a good sense of where I want to be sonically, and what kind of energy I want to spread onto dance floors, I am ready to restart MBTS in 2023. I had a phenomenal time at my first Love Burn in Miami last week and absolutely thrilled that the highlight of my week playing at 2 hour Bass House & Tech House set at The Freakeasy's Kitty Kat Island on Friday night was recorded!  What an amazing feeling to rock a packed dancefloor full of my Bay Area crew and new fans from far and wide under a giant geometric cat with freakin' laser beams shooting out of its mouth!  Hope you can feel the HEAT (both literally and figuratively) when listening to this mix. Thanks to Radiohiro for having me play and for building such an awesome production. I can't wait to go back next year! ❤️‍🔥🐱🏝

Retrospective

For our first exclusive Black Light Disco guest mix, we're very honoured to have the one and only...Smashed Atoms! 

Smashed Atoms is the musical alter-ego of Steve Gladdis, a North-London-based producer and DJ. Starting his musical journey as a drummer, Steve began DJing in the late 1990s, manning the decks at underground parties, bars and clubs in London throughout the next two decades.  

In recent years, he has turned his considerable talents to production, releasing his first EP, Solar Flare in 2014. Since then he’s released a number of EPs, put out two 12" vinyl releases on his own Magic Circles Music label and has featured on compilations from Paper Disco, Hot Digits and Stripped Recordings.

Cut This Way, which became the lead track on the fourth Smashed Atoms EP, featured in sets from Greg Wilson, Peza and Chris Massey, catching the ear of Gregg Holmes aka Fingerman, who released the EP on Hot Digits Music. Cut This Way deservedly hit number one in Juno download's disco chart, with airplay on Nemone's Electric Ladyland show on BBC Radio 6 Music. 

A new Smashed Atoms EP will arrive soon and which features a collaboration with singer Kathy Diamond. Steve has included a track from the new EP, -  'All The Time' exclusively in this mix.

Steve loves the ethos of the eras just before, and just after, the original disco peak period - when DJs played music from any genre as long as it sounded good on a dancefloor, and he brings that eclectic approach to his DJing and productions.

Here at BLD we're huge admirers of his and we're absolutely delighted to have him on board for this exclusive guest mix. You're gonna love it!

Black Light Disco Show 10th Feb 2020 - Esteban & Gary Jones (Gazzz 696)

Airing on MyHouse Radio on Monday 17th Feb 2020, the Black Light Disco Show brought in the big guns for this one. For the two hours we had the dream team up of Goz followed by Pookie Knights. For the first hour Goz showcases new music and promos from the likes of Castle Queenside, Hotmood, Sleazy McQueen & Vagabond Social Club, Onda Cuts, Souldynamic and Get Down Edits. For the second hour, Pookie Knights dig deep into the darkest recesses of the Discophere with tracks from Hubie Davison, Luther van Dross, Munky Fike and Duck Sauce, with a spotlight feature on two tracks which are ringing their bells from DJ Delivery and Rosso.

This time i have warmed up for the talented DJ Marcus Dryden from Cambridgeshire who rocks dance floors at infamous nites such as 'We Are Housework' .. The Black Light Disco show airs exclusively on the #1 house music station on the planet - myhouseradio.fm. Tune in every Monday from 2pm-4pm EST, 7pm-4pm GMT, 8pm-10pm CET. 

The idea of Black Light Disco became a real thing when a few like-minded DJs and producers came together to put on a night showcasing the very best in disco, house and funk and everything in between. Our ethos is based around a very simple concept: GOOD MUSIC, GOOD TIMES with GOOD PEOPLE. We announced ourselves on a gorgeous sunny Saturday in June 2019 with an all day and night party in Liverpool’s thriving Baltic Triangle area. It was the start of something very special. 

We have a solid core group of musical talent residing in BLD Towers hailing from England, Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland and Italy -  providing perfectly cooked grooves and juicy basslines. 

The BLD team comprises of Esteban, Goz (Spin City), Pookie Knights, Cole Kutz (Opentempo.fm) De Gama and Fingerman (Hot Digits) – clocking up decades of DJ’ing and dancefloor experience between us. As individuals, the BLD team have been producing consistently high quality sets over the last few years. Now, as a collective, the aim is to make Black Light Disco THE place to promote new music and to bring you the very best in established/up-and-coming artists and producers in the sunlit uplands of sonic pleasure. 

In January 2020, we launched a weekly show on THE biggest house music FM radio station in New York, MyHouseRadio.fm (also available digitally at www.myhouseradio.fm).  The Black Light Disco Show airs every Monday exclusive to MyHouse Radio between 7pm – 9pm GMT (2pm -4pm EST), bringing you the finest in disco, funk and boogie; all delivered by our expert in-house Sonic Consultants (resident DJs) with guest mixes from the hottest producers, DJs and artists out there right now.
