This week's guest is Italian DJ and Producer Musta, who has a fantastic BIO which you can read below :-)

His love for music begins very early, during the 11 years spent in the Dominican Republic. This encounter, made of Latin rhythms, starts the musical genre contamination that, to this day, distinguishes his productions. Lover of Funky, Disco, Boogie, Afro, and Tribal, his music portrays a fascinating mix of genres, intertwined in a fusion that combines the old and the new according to a personal reinterpretation, respectful of the past but constantly innovative. 

The Musta Project is rhythm, is exploring, is experimenting: in his pieces, we find a powerful ancestral call, where drums and percussions mark the rhythm, combined with contemporary harmonies from Electronic, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and House music.

His tracks speak of colours, encounters, and circumstances embedded in the mind, that are introduced to us with a rhythmiccharge in continued evolution.

It is not rare to find, in Musta’s sounds, unconventional impulses coming up from the past: it’s here that the imperfections from the vintage recordings acquire value becoming an important source of inspiration, from which Musta draws to create original and innovative sounds, a unique mood that finds an authentic harmony in the artist reinterpretation.

In 2018, together with internationally renowned DJ Stefano Rittieri, Musta founds the label Viaggio Recordings, responsible to this day for the production of four albums, both vinyl and digital. In 2019 “Mangiamo” is released, a fusion of vocals, Afro, Funk, sax, percussions, and bass, number one for several months in the Afro Latin Brazilian section of the Traxsource.

After last fortnight’s special 5th birthday show, I was back with another cracker of a guest mix for you, from Liverpool-based DJ and producer Ben Jamin. Ben’s had releases on loads of labels including Discography Lessons, Discoholics Anonymous and Hot Digits, and is a real master of the slow mo edit. He’s also a brilliant DJ, and has been kind enough to play some of my slower stuff in his mixes. His mix, of course, starts slow at a sub 100BPM simmer and gradually cranks up, moving through a variety of disco, soulful and worldy sounds. A very tasty mix!

Sh!t Happens

Well - what a day and night that was! Black Light Disco well and truly launched with a bang on that gorgeous, hot sunny Saturday in June at Brick Street in Liverpool. Thanks to everyone who joined us to dance, party and make it such a special launch event. Genuinely one of the nicest vibes I've experienced in a long time and that's all thanks to the lovely disco folk who joined us. Massive, massive thanks also to the Black Light DJs who took the crowd on an amazing musical journey. We'll be back. Soon. Promise!

The idea of Black Light Disco became a real thing when a few like-minded DJs and producers came together to put on a night showcasing the very best in disco, house and funk and everything in between. Our ethos is based around a very simple concept: GOOD MUSIC, GOOD TIMES with GOOD PEOPLE. We announced ourselves on a gorgeous sunny Saturday in June 2019 with an all day and night party in Liverpool’s thriving Baltic Triangle area. It was the start of something very special. 

We have a solid core group of musical talent residing in BLD Towers hailing from England, Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland and Italy -  providing perfectly cooked grooves and juicy basslines. 

The BLD team comprises of Esteban, Goz (Spin City), Pookie Knights, Cole Kutz (Opentempo.fm) De Gama and Fingerman (Hot Digits) – clocking up decades of DJ’ing and dancefloor experience between us. As individuals, the BLD team have been producing consistently high quality sets over the last few years. Now, as a collective, the aim is to make Black Light Disco THE place to promote new music and to bring you the very best in established/up-and-coming artists and producers in the sunlit uplands of sonic pleasure. 

In January 2020, we launched a weekly show on THE biggest house music FM radio station in New York, MyHouseRadio.fm (also available digitally at www.myhouseradio.fm).  The Black Light Disco Show airs every Monday exclusive to MyHouse Radio between 7pm – 9pm GMT (2pm -4pm EST), bringing you the finest in disco, funk and boogie; all delivered by our expert in-house Sonic Consultants (resident DJs) with guest mixes from the hottest producers, DJs and artists out there right now.
