If her vivacious electronic R&B LuckyMe debut Wrestling is anything to go by, we wouldn’t have expected LA-based producer KUČKA’s exclusive Bleep mix to be a limitless expanse of ambient splendour. Her mix serves as a comprehensive who’s-who of contemporary practitioners, ranging from flat-out blissful field recordings to the amniotic comfort in ambient electronic music. We begin with Green-House’s ‘Chysis’, a luscious plant nursery of spiralling arpeggios, later echoed in the rainy chimes of Visible Cloaks’ ‘Mask’. There are few beats in sight save for the subtle rhythms of Actress and Zsela’ ‘Angels Pharmacy’ and Khotin’s ‘Your Favourite Building’ in this incredibly rewarding listen.

As Sydney returns to the dance, we couldn't think of many more DJs as suited to host #20 right now. Tim Boyd comes in very hot for this instalment with 2 hours of jacking house and soul fillers originally intended to grace the dancers at the Community Chest spring soirée. "I haven't had my turntables since moving to Canberra in June and haven't been able to travel back into NSW to pick them up until the border opened in the last couple weeks. When I finally got them I decided to set them up and straight away in one take do a mix of all the records I've wanted to play for the past 5 months. Chinese born RUI HO (@ruiho)has been based in Berlin for the last four years, but even though she's built a reputation as an eclectic DJ, she doesn't make the formulaic four-to-the-floor techno you might expect. Rui's first release was in 2016 on Chinese label Genome 6.66Mbp and from the outset her sound was something totally unique. She referenced Chinese melodies, fusing them with energetic European club music, manifesting a truly original take.

o•rbyss aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

“The idea for the mix was born from a series of contiguous and isomorphic fever dreams. The mix takes the form of 3 different chapters and follows my trajectory that night within dream space: 3 times being lulled into sleep by arrhythmic ambience, 3 times being pulled into a colder, atonal space, and 3 times escaping discord towards tranquility. The mix drifts out of pure ambience into 3 sections at 3 different BPMs: the first of which explores half-timey 80 BPM grooves and liquid DnB; the second explores chugging 100 BPM and trip-hop grooves; the final part explores 120 BPM psy breaks and IDM.”

After growing up on the renegade scene of Montreal, como se DJ moved to Brooklyn and founded the DIY party series RECESS with the intention of bringing a psy-forward sound he felt was missing in New York City. Inspired by forest raves and experimental dance music, he dreamt up his party with the desire to conjure the feeling of dancing in open nature with your friends. como se DJ’s sets strikes a balance of body- and heart-activating psychedelia. At once mischievous and emotional, he pulls in sonic elements of bass, deep techno, prog and electro, flirting with genre and groove, while maintaining a lush, blissed-out undercurrent.

COLA REN is a music producer and DJ hailing from Guangzhou, whose soundscapes are deeply inspired by her observations of humanity, personal reflections, and transformative travel experiences around the globe. Her music seamlessly blends complex rhythms with organic textures, skillfully navigating genres such as Downtempo, Ambient, Breakbeat, Bass, Dub, Jazz, and Psychedelic. Through her unique sonic approach, COLA REN paints immersive landscapes and emotional hues, leading listeners on a captivating journey through the diverse rhythms and roots of the world.

In 2023, COLA REN co-founded the AMWAV label alongside Youmin Chen and released her debut solo EP, Hailu. This project showcases a rich tapestry of ambient, Balearic, and downtempo influences, characterized by its melodic beauty and spiritual essence, offering a soothing escape for listeners. Upon its release, Hailu garnered support from DJs and radio stations worldwide and received praise from notable music critics, including Shawn Reynaldo, Philip Sherburne, and Joe Delon. The subsequent Hailu Remix compilation, released in June 2024, featured contributions from internationally acclaimed producers such as Salamanda, K-LONE, Al Wootton, Will Hofbauer, Sam Goku, and Knopha.

This spring, COLA REN unveiled her second EP, Forest Drone, on the Munich-based producer Polygonia’s label, QEONE. The EP was highlighted as the cover of Spotify’s official playlist, Fresh Finds Experimental, further establishing her presence in the global music scene. COLA REN has made appearances on esteemed platforms such as Boiler Room, NTS, HÖR, Kiosk Radio, and Balamii, and was invited as a special guest by the UK label Wisdom Teeth to participate in their monthly show on Rinse FM.
