Heard at Heiners Bar playing tunes late into a quiet autumn night, @MARLAIS caught our attention with his sensitivity which led to discover more and more of his sonic universe through the music he makes on labels like Treibender Teppich or @Kin-ship and the one he plays out when DJing at bars or for his monthly Gurkenmusik broadcast on @MutantRadio.

After watching some of his videos, @ecoutesauvert invited him back in Nov. 2021 to play a concert at a sold-out triple bill show at Loophole, along Neukölln co-alumni @cv-vision and @jaguarnome, where his talent was lay bare to see & hear.
 
MARLAIS sings traditional British and Irish folk songs in a traditional acapella way and also set to a sonic tapestry of organ drones, arpeggiated flutes and ambient textures that depict a mystical & romantic world. These folks songs in their stunning simplicity can be hypnotic, evocative and even subversive.

SonarMix 011 takes a different path to previous editions, with Barcelona experimental artist Pedro Vian offering a tour through his recent listening pile. Recorded using a sole turntable, Vian takes us through forthcoming releases on his Modern Obscure Music imprint (fêted Japanese ambient artist Susumu Yokota), classic 80s reggae from Steel An' Skin, and unidentified and unreleased music from himself and others. The result is an unhurried, autumnal wander through a diverse set of sounds, tones and styles, a perfect soundtrack for the changing of the seasons.

東京を拠点に活動するDJ、プロデューサー。ソロプロジェクトPUNKADELIXの活動を経て、2016年よりMAYUDEPTH名義での楽曲制作を始動。日本テクノサウンドのイノベイターDJ SHUFFLEMASTER主宰の”四季協会”からEP「Sneakpeek」を発表する他ドイツの”Ohrfeigen”からも新作をリリースしている。2022年には映画監督の石原海をフィーチャーした2ND EP「Angels from Hell」を発表し、石原海監督によるMVが同時公開された。Boiler Roomを始め世界各国のラジオやプラットフォームからMIXが公開されており、2022年には”apple music”よりオフィシャルMIXをリリース。クィア・パーティ”MOTORPOOL”では主宰のDSKEと共にレジデントとキュレーションを務めるなど、常に挑戦的かつオープンな姿勢でエレクトロニック・ダンスミュージックを探求し続けている。

MAYUDEPTH （Shiki Kyokai）
DJ and producer based in Tokyo. After working on her solo project PUNKADELIX, she starts a full-scale music production under the new project MAYUDEPTH name in 2016. She released the EP 'Sneakpeek' in 2016 on the 'Shiki-Kyokai' label, run by Japanese techno sound innovator DJ SHUFFLEMASTER. She has also released new tracks on German 'Ohrfeigen' label. In 2022, a second EP, Angels from Hell, featuring film director Umi Ishihara, was released, with a music video directed by Umi Ishihara released at the same time. Her energetic mixing style has won her an global following radio and platforms around the world, including Boiler Room, and in 2022 her released an official mix on apple music. She is a resident and curator of the queer party "MOTORPOOL" held at CONTACT with DSKE, and continues to explore electronic dance music with with a challenging and open attitude.

Pluie/Noir Podcast is a bi-monthly audio-visual episode representing our work as an artist collective. Each episode will feature a one hour collage/mix by one of our producers/djs and a poster triptych by one of our designers.
We interviewed both artists and dropped some questions about their vision:

1.Hi Fabio, welcome to the p/n family. How are you?
Hi there, I am pretty good. Thanks ! I am honored to be able to join this great project. Thank you very much for your welcome.

2.You recently moved to Berlin! why did you move and how’s Berlin treating you so far?
Yes, I moved this January to Berlin from Sapporo, which is a deeply snowy North Island in Japan. My favorite & truly special club Precious Hall is actually in Sapporo, and I have seen great the music scene there be created by the club and the crowd, in symbiosis. I was organizing a party called “FLOPPY” at Precious Hall, sharing good times and my life with my close friends there. However, I was dreaming about moving to Berlin for some years now, which for me is a indeed a special city full of music and art. I didn’t want to regret never have tried moving to Berlin, so that’s I moved with my wife. 
There are lot of DJs here, and everyone is talented and challenging each other for creating and sharing music. I am feeling a huge pressure, but I've got many exciting things from the city already, and I think all people get a fair chance. It polishes off my own skills I think.  There is a free and easy atmosphere, I feel relaxed in here and it seems like the ideal environment to be creative. 

3.What do you do besides dj’ing and producing music?
I was teaching Karate when I was in Japan. Because my grandfather and my father are Karate teachers as well, I grew up and practiced every day at my home dojo when I was child. I had students all generations, from kids to adults. I would like to teach Karate in Berlin in the near future.  I am also working in a Ramen restaurant called “Takumi Nine”, it's a very cozy place with very tasty Sapporo ramen in berlin. Highly recommended ?

4.You had your debut at CdV with pluie/noir last month, and you also have a track on the upcoming pluie/noir compilation. Will this be your kick-off for new releases?
Yes, I will never forget I was part of Pluie/Noir's 4th anniversary party, and it was great moment in my life as well.  It was an amazing night indeed, from beginning to end. Congratulations again !
I am also very excited to join this upcoming compilation, the other artists are great too and I have conviction this compilation will definitely be great. I'm looking forward to the release. My other upcoming releases are one track in a compilation, and a solo EP.  Other labels are interested in my music, and I wish to release all my best works, so I am still focusing on producing new music and improving my skills.  It's incredibly fun to produce music at the moment, I think it's the perfect time to do that for me. 

5.What are your future plans?
I will DJ again at CDV on the 10th July. The party is called "Vinyl Society" which hosted by DeWalta and Luc Ringeisen. And I will play with Fumiya Tanaka. I am a bit nervous because Fumiya-san is one of the DJs I respect the most for a long time now. But I'm preparing myself with time so I can do a good performance.
Actually I haven't been getting that many gigs since I moved to Berlin in January,  but I think there is no need to haste. I'm taking it step by step, and enjoying other parties and meeting other likeminded people. I hope  to build trust amongst people I admire, and confidence in my work.  So right now, I'm living and breathing Berlin, my goal is I to play worldwide in a near future.
