Emptyset is a multidisciplinary production project founded by James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas exploring the sonic possibilities of electroacoustic and computer music, architecture and performance. Their music focusses on compositional structures, dynamics control and textural detailing, working with elemental sonics and the material properties of sound. Having released on labels such as Raster Noton, Thrill Jockey, Future Days and James Ginzburg’s own Subtext label; they have become a favourite for us here at Bleep. This mix explores pioneering early electronics from the likes of Franca Sacchi and Laurie Spiegel that have informed their work as well as recent luminaries pushing electronic music in new directions alongside as a stunning cut from their recent Thrill Jockey release: Blossoms.

Our latest in the series comes from the ever-inspiring Slowfoam. A beloved friend to many here in Seattle and, until very recently, a resident as well. Her mix for us, which couples well with a leisurely stroll to a nearby body of water, immerses you in her undeniable talent to capture the subtleties of organic surroundings--the large brush strokes and delicate intricacies alike. The trees and the forest. 

The set flows towards the ambient - it has a steady calming sensation woven throughout, with an occasional uprising of the eerie. It’s truly beautiful and a testament to the producer's keen ability to express emotions and experiences through sound.

With two excellent releases out on Jungle Gym Records and a self-released EP under her belt, Slowfoam has recently decided to take on the task of recording her first studio LP. While her kickstarter campaign is fully funded, additional funds are still of great help - we urge you to take a peek!

It's the first sunday of march and that means a brand new session! This months chapter is created Max Würden. 

About Max:

Max Würden lives and works in Cologne Germany. He is since 1987 a musician and producer. In 2001 he started also with soundtrack productions. But in 2000 his music took shape when he started creating ambient music. Using samples, loops, field recordings and instruments. A variaty of genres came across his path: Ambient, soundscapes and dub ambient. To get the maximum experience he performs live.

To finish up with May at Fake Rolex, we host a sometimes liquid, sometimes deep drumming selection from Elise (@el-se), a DJ that oscillates with prolific talent through genres as UK techno, electro, ghetto house, jungle and between. 

‘I did this podcast a month ago from now when we were still deep into the lockdown here in Paris. Like a lot of people, this period went with a lot of mixed feelings about the future, ups & downs. It was in a bit of a lull moment that I tried to share some kind of “floating acceptance” that I was into on that quarantine day 49’

After 5 years in the Shanghai local scene where she was involved as a DJ, live performer, and occasional promoter, Elise moved to Berlin to focus on her music production, releasing an EP at Man Band Records (2018)(@man-band). 

Now based in Paris, Elise continues to push her sound forward and signed an opening reshape on François X's new imprint Dement3d XXX (@dement3d), with some promising releases in the works as well as a monthly show on Rinse France (@rinse_france).
