I tried to build the song around a theme of humans emerging on earth, and asserting dominance as time progresses. The field recordings in the beginning of the song are synonymous with the purity of nature, and the prehistoric times, before humankind even existed.

The song develops a more electronic sound as humans start inventing machines, and start spreading across the world, creating nations and empires. It eventually transpires into more electronic mess as the development of man-made technology increases exponentially, and more and more is demanded, until no one can keep up with that demand.

The resulting instability, signified with the varying time signatures, eventually boils down to an economic recess that will have a long lasting impact. The fate of the world is unknown, so I won’t be filling in an epilogue with this song’s ending.

I have also gathered a collection of DVD’s with Mini DV tapes of my childhood, and converted some sound fragments from those DVD’s to sound files through VLC. These sound fragments are short, subtle, and mainly serve to add to the instrumental experience.

Ployidraine

''This is the real world'' is based on a phrase that was repeated many times throughout my life. I was a dreamy young man, and I often fantasized about becoming a big time music/film producer. But that can't be achieved without taking the proper steps for it. Where ‘’Ployidraine’’ can be interpreted as happy and dreamy, ‘’This is the real world’’ is far more dark toned and serious, just like the reality that we all share with one another.

Yet, this song also still has dreamy elements. For example, the ringing sound playing through the mix is a live recording of me rubbing my finger over the top of a wine glass, and then placed in Fruity Sampler, where it was fine tuned to match up with the tonality of the other instruments. The reverbed beats are made in FPC, where I built my own drum patch from scratch. The only slightly distinguishable vocals were modulated with a custom vocal effect in Logitech G Hub, then ran through Edison with a blur effect applied on top of it, giving it it's psuedo-reverbed status.

This Is the Real World

This is an experimental piece with lots of crushed sounds and cinematic aspects. It includes me whistling through a Yeti X microphone. Newgrounds user TeraVex praised the use of dynamic range in this song.

Cover is a very underexposed close up of a prism glass that splits a light beam from my flashlight, and a bunch of nebular effects added over it in Photoshop.
