Since Black Magic’s inception, we’ve observed many serendipitous, real life signs relating to the number six in everything from seating sections to file sizes. It’s only natural that we’re back where we started with @kennedy-music behind the decks for BMRMIX006: Hex Code. 

This mix truly has it all. Chris’ sonic palette is on full display here, covering the gamut of heads-down techno rollers, rapturous piano moments, memorable vocal tracks, tightly executed blends, bold tempo shifts, and a showcase of original productions under his Failed Actor pseudonym. To top it all off, we get to debut the brand new Chris Kennedy track, “Slangin,” which is out in 2 weeks on Black Magic Recordings!

Subtle.MIX_v4_FINAL w Celebrity Bitcrush & DJ Fake Art - 23/02/2025

As we prepare for spring and the world is healing from a harshly cold winter, we've tapped @smokeandteadc (@blinkhorn and @b_x_r_n_x_r_d) to bring us the latest entry in the BMR mix series entitled "Music Is Medicine." BMRMIX007 is a dreamlike illustration of carefully designed synthesizer sounds and deliberate track selections that use an unreleased recording of a Smoke & Tea performance at the @blacktechnomatters' 2024 Juneteenth Healing in the Park event in DC's Malcolm X park as the canvas for the mix. One will find themselves floating in the astral ether wrapped in a cocoon of sound for just long enough until the sweet call of reality is refracted back through the lens of pop memories, smoky jazz, and the warmth of friendship. Smoke & Tea invite you to get lost in the alternate reality they have created through an ingenious blend of an unreleased live recording, thoughtful track selections from Bernard and Patrick, and additional live synthesizer improvisations that the cosmic duo recorded at Black Techno Matters' HQ (https://youtu.be/k6l7W5-LDD4). Smoke & Tea's entry in the BMR mix series offers the listener almost an hour of healing sounds that prove "Music Is Medicine."

Life doesn't always fit into a neat little box and sometimes things are chaotic and even a bit dark; yet in the beautiful mess of disorder, we often find the most honest rhythm. It's in this spirit that we present the vision of @ois-326981832, who's delivered an entry into our mix series that's aptly titled "Fluid Chaos." The recording swings effortlessly between genres, providing glimpses of familiar sounds that are embedded in underground dance music culture.
