Disquiet Junto Project 0600: Reaching Out
The Assignment: This is a shared sample project. Rework a set of seven WAV files provided by Marcus Fischer.

Step 1: The musician Marcus Fischer, long a friend of and participant in the Disquiet Junto, has graciously put together a set of shared samples that will be the source audio for this project. Part of the beauty of a shared sample project is that there will be an underlying quality — a tonality, a texture, a commonality — to all the disparate works that are produced from the foundational material. Listening to the variations as they surface will be its own special source of pleasure. You can access the files here:

Step 2: You can rework the audio from Step 1 in any way that you see fit. You can use all of it, or just one tiny piece, or whatever subset you find strikes your ear. The one stipulation is your finished piece should begin and end with an unadulterated segment of one of the provided tracks for at least two seconds. Please credit Marcus Fischer when posting your track.

Deadline: This project’s deadline is the end of the day Monday, July 3, 2023, at 11:59pm (that is, just before midnight) wherever you are. It was posted on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Disquiet Junto Project 0600: Reaching Out

2023 - May/June/July - Juntos etc

Conceived, recorded 15 May 2023 by Jim Lemanowicz at Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories of Massapequa, NY, outdoors.

This is a live mix done in AUM of a generative piece, edited down to three minutes. This was performed in the backyard with percussion - a table, a metal box, a shaker - and a friction mallet along with a track of SpaceCraft and another track of mood.

Saint Pancreas

Conceived, recorded 01 June 2023 by Jim Lemanowicz at Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories of Massapequa, NY, outdoors.

This is a live mix done in AUM of a generative piece, edited down to 2 and a half minutes. This was performed in the backyard with percussion along with a track of AudioKit VHS Synth and a track of AudioKit Digitalism 2000.

Photo taken possibly in May or June, 2013 near Berner Middle School, Massapequa, NY, USA. Some of the photos on that roll look as early as 2009, so I am not sure.

Making use of two files from Marcus Fischer: 600_nacre_voit-mfischer.wav (which begins and ends the track) and 600_PSU_stairs-mfischer.wav. Each was used with the max/msp nn~ object, with AI models of a human voice and sounds from NASA.

The Assignment: This is a shared sample project. Rework a set of seven WAV files provided by Marcus Fischer.

I wanted to make a ten minutes track, because thats 600 seconds for disquiet0600. Some of the samples went into granular meat grinders of different kinds (but mostly Granulator II in Live), others were used more or less directly, but with something from Puremagnetik as an FX. I went by stomach for a track that would please my taste, using only Marcus samples
