The Assignment: Write a piece of music informed by the concerto form

Step 1: Familiarize yourself with the concerto form. For example, consider the idea of having a soloist amid a larger instrumental setting, and of having a three-part structure that goes fast, then slow, then fast again.

Step 2: Needless to say, you needn’t necessarily record a piece of classical music, but employ what you know about concerto form in a new, original piece of music.

Disquiet Junto Project 0649: Concerto for [ ]

[disquiet0649] Concertino

Sometimes a junto challenge inspires me and makes me go for something new and unexpected. Rarely (very rarely) is it the other way around. 
This week's junto seems to be inspired by what I just did (have been doing for the last 2 days).

I mentioned in a previous post my new instrument, the Ronroco built by Argentine luthier S. Vazquez a couple of months ago.
I am recording a mini album (at the request of a producer) and this particular track had the working title “Concerto for Ronroco and Strings”. I wanted to create a little piece of music in which the orchestra would play around this peculiar little guitar.

I wasn't planning to share it (I have a meeting with the producer tomorrow to show him the first mix), but here it is. I'm quite proud of this, two long days of work.

Process notes - 

I set the track up to roughly follow the golden ratio alongside the conventions of a concerto, like this -

1:36 - presto 158bpm
2.56 = 153.6 = 2.33 - adagio 44bpm  (4:09)
0.625 = 37.5 - allegro - 120bpm  (4:46.5)

I am calling this "distributed" because I threw away the notion that a concerto needs a solo instrument but instead leaned closer to Ornette Coleman and "collective improvisation," which I have always believed was inspired by the older "Dixieland" jazz.
