Deep Daydreams w/ TET - 15.10.20

NYC-based artist Ela Minus is creating the perfect musical antidote for moments of gloom or, in her words "bright music for dark times". Something we've all needed a heavy dose of this year.

Two things lie at the core of her musical pursuits; a strong relationship with her machines and her belief that we all have the ability to make a change in the world. Realised through her strictly hardware synthesizer set up and imbued with a punk approach, she crafts intricate electronic compositions that are textural and warm, flirting with the dark and the light.

Her relationship with Domino Records came about earlier this year with the release of two singles, and now her debut album Acts of Rebellion, which really sees her come into her own as an artist. Following the release we invited her to take the reigns for this week's Wednesday Alternative mix, in which she strings together an eclectic mix of electronics, from crunchy leftfield rhythms to harmonic, synth-laced house jams..

AYLI Ground Level 008: Josh Cheon - The Bank Mixtape

Musclecars are infamous New York City party purveyors - two dj's and producers with an exuberant reputation and excellent taste. 

Brandon Weems and Craig Handfield have been running parties for many years and in 2018 launched 'Coloring Lessons'. The party has brought a lease of life to New York's dance community and has become a stalwart of house, techno, disco and beyond. It is described by the pair as follows:

"While the party and sound is not genre specific, it is heavily focused around house, disco, jazz, and soul, embracing the musical elements of black and brown ancestors."

Now they are about to release a new compilation celebrating the series, they have invited the likes of Levon Vincent, Beta Librae, Kai Alice and many more to join them on the inaugural release on the label. 

We invited them to show us what they're all about with a mix ready and set to go.

Musclecars: The 'Wednesday Alternative' Mix

For almost two decades DJ, promoter, producer and vocalist Michelle Manetti has been an active and respected voice in East London's queer scene, pushing for representation for marginalised artists through her regular parties and her now defunct Lipstick Disco blog.

A mainstay at Dalston Superstore, her Fèmmme Fraîche parties - launched in 2015 alongside Sandra Le - have become a bi-monthly fixture, and have helped to spotlight emerging female, female-identifying and non-binary DJs, as well as hosting bigger names like Honey Dijon, Rroxymore and Nightwave.

Sonically driven by jackin' house beats, trippy acid, dynamic techno and more recently proto, Italo and breaks, her sets are as electic as they are energetic. True to form, she brings that relentless energy on her 'Ransom Note' mix, which is a ride through raunchy Italo, driving synths and hypnotic acid...
