In this episode, Indian DJ, Tasnneem, will be taking you on a soulful journey with her melodic tunes. Drawing influences from some of the world’s greatest musical geniuses, Tasnneem has always managed to blend in sounds, melodies, and tunes that speak the loudest to her in all of her sets. Playing an eclectic mix of Jazz, Funk, Nu-Disco, Deep House, and Techno, she has consistently been able to translate her love for music as a means of escape into a sound that would have the same effect on her audience, yet get them to dance their feet off on the dance floor.

INTERVIEW

Why did you choose to become an artist?
"I never really choose it. I just love making music. I could sit seven days a week in my studio making music, that's just how everything went."

What do you do to get into a creative state?
"I try to get up early. Having enough sleep and a fresh mind is super important for me to be creative. And knowing my equipment and my tools is essential to get into a creative state. I don’t want to be distracted by searching for any functions or checking signal paths during the creative process, this would kill my creativity and workflow. I always have a certain time window where I’m most creative and when I can handle my equipment without thinking (e.g. shorcuts etc.) I can fully focus on the music. When the window gets closed I can take care about the technical stuff, like getting deeper into plugins, reading manuals or mixing (which I also really enjoy doing). I also noticed that I’m most creative when I can twist real knobs and faders instead of sitting in front of a computer with a mouse. Thats why I want to use more hardware in the future."  

Where do you get your inspiration from?
"Usually i get inspired by just jamming around with my keyboard, trying out new synths and sounds or just making a groove that leads me further. And of course I also get inspired by a lot of great musicians and their sounds, not only four to the floor."

What do you love most about being an artist?
"To be independent."

What do you want to express with your music?
"It is really important for me to make music not only „functional“ for the dancefloor. I also have an artistic demand to create emotions and catch the listener."

You in 11 years?
"Hopefully making a living as an artist, making music and playing live."
