With Inner Truth

It's funny how your view of music can be colored by so many factors. This piece, at least to my ears, is vintage early 50's NYC cool jazz. While I was not alive to actually witness that scene, I did frequently go to shows in the eighties and early nineties. I got to see many of the artists that were a vital part of that time in some dusty old clubs that were not changed much from their heydays. It boggles my mind that I am now the age many of those artists were at the time I first got to see them. 
 One also thinks of one's own life when listening to music. For me this style, with some others, formed the sound track to my twenties. I was raised in a house that was fairly male dominated. My brother was only eleven months younger than me but my sister was nearly seven years. When my wife, who only had a sister and was raised mostly by her mom, and I had three daughters in four years, I was introduced to a whole new world. Equally as chaotic as the home I grew up in but with a certain restraint. Sort of like this jazz. I would love to tease them. Telling them I would not make them lunch because I was tired or that I'd make them something horrible so I could save some money with cheaper ingredients. My daughter's response would often be" no daddy" on the dubious, unestablished, grounds of "Mommy said so". Using this as an unassailable high legal precedent. Hence the title. Of course my wife, in spite of being quoted, again dubiously, as a sage high moral authority more closely resembled the woman in the photo. Which also combines a nostalgia for a time I didn't witness with one I lived.
